Costers del Segre subzone Valls del Riu Corb On a bigger scale… Population of Vallbona 1920: 1.176 people 2007: 249 people 88 people are over 65 years old 15 people less than 14 years old density: 7.3 people for Km2 data from Idescat THE BEGINNINGS – 1974 A group of young people move to Vallbona, having in common the project of creating a different experience, putting together social integration and the search for productive works viable in this difficult area the evolution 1974-75 arrival in Vallbona de les Monges and creation of the Cooperativa 1976 purchase of the first lot of land 1977 building of the first house 1979-82 several field works, vineyard plantation and building of the warehouse 1985 purchase of more land lots and project of the cellar 1988 cellar building and enlargment of the lots 2006 cooperation agreement for Can Calopa 1989 the first wine is born: Blanc de Serè 2007 red grapes are planted 1991 oak fermented wines 2008 cellar enlargement and beginning of bio convertion 1994 cellar enlargement 2009 export program 2000 start of the Occupational Therapy 2010 Can Calopa - care of Barcelona city government’s 2003 vineyards enlargement; creation of vineyards just outside town to make Barcelona L’Olivera Foundation wine; house and work for young people with 2004-5 new house and the oil mill are built social insertion difficulties 2005-6 sweet wines project (RASIM) 20 ha vineyards (Picture of one of our vineyards) L’Olivera right now 67 members (workers, cooperators, etc.) • • • • • VALLBONA DE LES MONGES: 44 members 34 people working in Vallbona de les Monges, 24 of which also live in Vallbona de les Monges 20 people with disability work and live at L’Olivera Productive land: 20ha vineyards, 20ha olive trees organic production CAN CALOPA (Barcelona): 23 members • 2 young people living at Can Calopa • 11 workers (non resident) • Productive land: 5ha vineyards…..….. I. company organization 1- local capital and property 2- power and decision 3- contextual organization and culture II. economic activity a- services for the community b- added value to agriculture: the wine and olive oil c- knowledge through innovation and interaction from local to networks Knowledge: cognitive work (Alfonso Vàzquez: “Democracia Económica”, 2009) - thought: the ability of assigning a meaning to all the available information - emotion - accion: the ability of interconnecting and deciding with enough autonomy in order to be able to act You always learn when acting, living, cooperating. The cognitive work always creates a surplus in the form of knowledge. This surplus will always result in subsequent productive actions and in the complex framework of social relations. Knowledge needs cooperation and interaction.
