On Wednesday, October 15, Sehome will be participating in the nationwide testing event. Beginning promptly at 7:45 am, freshmen will be taking the Readi-Step Exam; sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT exam; and seniors will be attending various workshops geared towards college and career planning. All test results will be returned to students in December. PSAT study guides are available in the main office. There is no cost to students for the exams. On Thursday, October 16th, Sehome High School will be administering Washington State’s schoolbased Healthy Youth Survey during Anchor. This survey is given every two years to high school sophomores and seniors. Questions on the survey are from valid national surveys. The survey results are important to school, county and statewide stakeholders and are used for needs assessment, planning, program improvements and evaluation. Participation in the survey is voluntary. Students can also skip questions they do not want to answer. A student’s individual results are confidential. If parents do not want their student to take the survey or if students do not want to take the survey, please see Mrs. Turrell in the main office. We are asking sophomores and seniors to complete the survey before they “move” to another Anchor, etc. If you have questions, please see Dr. Barga. The Sehome Robotics Team presents “Robotics Bad, and not so Bad, Movie Night” on Friday, Oct. 17th. Doors open at 6:30, with the first movie starting at 7:00. Movies include “Sharknado 2 & Pacific Rim”. Admission is free and concessions will be available. For information, contact Zach Larson. Anime Club will meet in room 124 on Friday, October 24th, for the first meeting of the year! Spanish speakers – Join us in at Roosevelt Elementary School helping young native speakers learn how to read in Spanish at Club de Lectura. The first session is October 20, and then the next seven Mondays from 3:00 to 4:30. Please see Ms. Bobovski to pick up a permission slip. You must have a signed permission slip to participate on Monday, October 20. It’s time for the World Language Credit for Proficiency test. If you read, write, speak and understand a language other than English, you may be able to earn up to two World Language credits and two elective credits with this test. If you want to take the test, you must come to room 121 during Anchor on Wednesday, Oct. 22 to respond to a prompt and submit a writing sample in the language you hope to test in. Pictures and ASB cards can be picked up in the ASB office! Make sure you come pick yours up! Important Information: Information The Sehome High School Student Learning Center is open Monday through Thursday, 2:15 to 4:30 in the Sehome Library. Anything lost or stolen, please come to the office & fill out a “Lost/Theft Report”, so when found, it can be returned to you. Reminder to Freshmen: Freshmen Campus is closed during lunch. You are not to leave during lunches. WTA Bus Passes are available in the ASB Office for $15. Clubs: National Hispanic Honor Society is meeting every WEDNESDAY in room 120 during the 10 minute break. Check in with advisor Mrs. Bobovski to find out how you can help your community and use your Spanish language skills. Volunteer opportunities include helping your peers with Spanish or ELL students with their English, volunteering at Community Events such as a Health Fair coming up at Assumption October 4th, working in the Learning Center or volunteering in the Club de Lectura at Roosevelt Elementary. We are also planning some exciting cultural events this year! Come and be a part of the planning! You must be a sophomore and have a B+ average in Spanish. The Washington Aerospace Scholars is a two-phased STEM program in which , upon completion, you can earn five UW credits in Space and Space Travel. Participants who pass Phase One take part in a FREE week-long summer program of hands on activities and challenges at the Museum of Flight in Seattle! Phase one begins soon and the registration deadline is November 14th. See Mrs. Zender for details! Bellingham Technical College is hosting their annual Tour on Tuesday, November 4th. If you are interested in checking out how a technical college works, learning about the programs they offer and seeing their labs, see Mrs. Zender for a field trip form. This is just a half day trip and is packed with loads of interesting information! Its pink and hot of the press!! Hot Jobs is list of local businesses hiring teens and is available for pick up in the Career Center. Get your copy today!! Seniors planning to apply to Washington State University: please see your counselor as soon as possible if you wish to be considered for the Regents Scholarship! This is by nomination only!! C.A.S.H.E. weekend is coming November 14-16!! C.A.S.H.E. is a student led conference at Washington State University where WSU students take time from their busy schedules to put on an amazing weekend for over 200 high school students from all around Washington. Students who attend will experience what life as a college student is like as well as receive much information regarding admissions ,financial aid and MUCH more! All high school students are welcome! Seniors are encouraged to apply to WSU ahead of time to be considered for on sight admission and their $1,000 scholarship! The cost for this entire event, including meals and lodging, is $50 and registration will close on Oct 31st . ( price goes to $60 after 10/24) There are possible partial and full scholarships to cover the weekend. Parents can register as chaperones!
