Tuesday, October 21, 2014 NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS Attention All Students: The Girls Varsity Soccer Team has advanced to the 2nd Round of the WPIAL playoffs. They play Yough tomorrow, Oct. 22nd at Thomas Jefferson at 6:00 PM. Make the trip and help your ladies bring home the WPIAL title! Attention German Club: It’s pumpkin time! On Thursday, Oct. 30th, there will be a German Club meeting in AA210 and we will be painting pumpkins. Please sign up in Frau Wiernik’s room, AA210 by this Thursday, Oct. 23rd if you are planning to attend. Attention All Students & Parents: For this Friday’s football game between South Fayette and Quaker Valley, adult and student presale tickets can be purchased on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 23rd and 24th in the Athletic Office of the high school, as well as at the greeter’s desk in the elementary and the main offices of the intermediate and middle school from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Students presale tickets are $2.00 and adult presale tickets are $5.00. Also, Friday is “Pink Out Night!” Attention Circle of Friends Members: Circle of Friends has their big movie night tonight at Big Phoenix Cinemas. Meet at 6:30 PM in the theater lobby. Tickets are $5.00. We will be seeing “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”. OLD ANNOUNCEMENTS Congratulations to the Varsity Cheerleaders who took 3rd place at the South Park cheerleading competition. Way to go girls! Attention Independent Study Students: Please schedule your brief Independent Study meeting with Mr. Skrbin before the end of the 1st Nine Weeks. Remember to bring your weekly journals. See Mrs. Holley to schedule your times. Thank you! Attention All Students: Students interested in participating in this year’s Poetry Out Loud and or the Shakespeare Monologue and Scene contest should attend an informational meeting in the band room Thursday the 23rd at 2:20-2:40pm. Attention all Students: Student Government will be having its next meeting this year on Wednesday, October 22nd, after school in the high school conference center. We are looking for new members from all grades, so if you are interested in joining Student Government, please attend the meeting. Student Government holds meetings every Wednesday after school in the conference center, so even if you cannot attend this meeting, please try to attend another upcoming meeting. Please see Mr. Yerace, Mrs. Clonan, Mr. Flannery, or Mr. McArdle for more information. Attention all Students: Please don’t forget to attend the “Evening in India” event this Thursday, October 23rd from 6:30 to 9 PM in the High School Gym. Admission is free and you can sample Indian food and watch performances starting at 7:30. We hope to see you there! Attention all Students and Faculty: Student Government is sponsoring its annual Halloween Dress Up day this upcoming Friday, October 31st. Come to school dressed for Trick-or-Treating! Everyone is advised of the following rules for the day: All policies of the school dress-code must be followed. No one is permitted to wear any mask or head covering which would completely cover the face or head. Fake blood, guts or other gore is prohibited. Clothes cannot be too cumbersome or unmanageable during the course of the regular school day. Clothes cannot be revealing, contain obscenities, or be otherwise inappropriate. Student Government will award prizes to the best dressed students. We hope you all participate! 1 Attention All Students: The Softball Booster Halloween Dance planned for Saturday, Oct. 25th has been CANCELLED. Attention Seniors: If you did not get a chance to turn in your cap and gown information at the assembly yesterday, please be sure to turn in that information and your orders to the Main Office. Thank you! Attention Model UN Members: There will be a Model UN Meeting after school on Thur., Oct. 23rd at 3:00 PM in the Conference Center. All students interested in participating in the first conference at Pitt are encouraged to attend the meeting or see Mrs. Quirk to obtain essential information. Attention FBLA Members: There will be an FBLA meeting today, Tues., Oct. 21st in Mrs. Perry's room. All members should make every effort to attend or see Mrs. Quirk or Mrs. Perry to get the information. Attention Quiz Bowl Members: There will be a Quiz Bowl Practice on Wed., Oct. 22nd in the Library after school. The first match is on Thur., Oct. 23rd at Thomas Jefferson High School. All interested students are encouraged to sign up with Mrs. Quirk. Attention German Club: T-shirt orders are today, Tues., Oct. 21st. If you would like to order a t shirt, stop by Frau Wiernek’s room to pick up an order form and see a sample. Attention All Students: To raise money to fight breast cancer, Middle School students will be taping teachers to the wall. They need your help! Are you interested in volunteering this coming Thursday? We need volunteers to prepare the tape and help the middle school students with the event. You will need to leave the high school at the beginning of 10th period. If you are interested, please stop by the Guidance Office to sign up as soon as possible. Attention All Students: Do you like playing card, board, or video games? Do you want to learn what makes a game effective, challenging, and--most of all--fun? Then talk to your guidance counselor to see if you can sign up for ‘Game Design’—a new course to be taught this spring by Miss Scott. We’ll be creating, play testing, and analyzing games based on the fundamentals of game design. See Miss Scott in room AB224 with any questions. Attention All Students: Just a reminder that Underclassmen Picture “Makeup” Day will be occurring this Thur., Oct. 23rd during the day. Please stop by the Main Office to pick up an order form if you did not have your picture taken. If you are getting your picture “retaken”, please remember to bring your original pictures with you. Attention Juniors: The Junior Class t-shirt forms are due Fri., Oct. 24th. Attention All Students: Baseball workouts have begun! Coach Morgan is looking for new talent. If you are interested in baseball, but have not filled out a player info sheet, please see Mr. Morgan. Off-season workouts have already started and occur on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 4:00 PM. If you are not currently involved in a fall sport or activity, it is highly encouraged that you attend. Attendance will be taken. Attention all Sophomores and Juniors: A reminder to register for the practice SAT and ACT exams being held at South Fayette in October and November. All money raised from the event will go to support the Four Diamonds Fund to fight childhood cancer. Last year we had thirty teams and over 250 students participate and raised over $21,000, and we hope to see you at this year’s event! Attention All Students: Attention all students who will be 18 years old by November 4th: Student Government is sponsoring a Voter Registration Drive this week. Students that register to vote will be entered into a raffle to win a $25 Visa gift certificate, and Student Government will pay the cost of postage to mail in your application. More importantly, you will be able to vote in all Pennsylvania elections, including US Presidential elections. Student Government strongly encourages you to register to vote if you are eligible to! If you are eligible to vote, you must see your Economics teacher by Monday the 22nd to get a voter application. You will need your driver’s license when you register. Attention Seniors: Redford Photography will have your “selected” image online for purchase. The senior image in the yearbook is free, but if you would like to purchase additional photos, please visit sf.redfordphoto.com to place your order or call 724-743-5700. Prom Announcement: Attention all students, the following are some details regarding Prom: • Prom will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 • Please be aware that times have CHANGED – Promenade will now begin at 4:00 p.m. AND the Prom will be held from 6:00-11:00 p.m. (we will not have overnight prom anymore) • Prom will be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel downtown in the William Penn Ballroom • Tickets will cost $100 per person and $200 per couple 3 • Students can begin selling Sarris candy immediately to begin earning money off of their tickets!
