NEWNAN HIGH ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR 10/27/14 RED RIBBON/SPIRIT WEEK – DRESS CODE EXCEPTIONS: Monday, Oct. 27: Real Life – Red, White & Newnan Blue Tuesday, Oct. 28: Real Life Heroes – Fire/EMS/Military/Teachers/Coaches/Medical, etc. Wednesday, Oct. 29: Wake Up to Reality – Pajama Day (pay $1 to 1st block) Thursday, Oct. 30: Real Life Dreams Really Do Come True – Disney Day Friday, Oct. 31: Give Drugs the Boot – Cowboys vs. Indians Hat Day (pay $1 to 1st block) NEWNAN GIVES BACK: Hey Cougars! Do you want a chance to throw a pie in the face of an administrator? Do you want to see some of your class advisors dressed in Angry Bird costumes this Friday, Oct. 31? Donate $1 per chance at the pie toss and/or donate change for the Angry Bird costume vote during all lunches in the main cafeteria and before school in the 9th grade cafeteria. Opportunities will end on Thursday! All proceeds will help fight cancer …. Newnan High Cares and Gives Back! PARKING/NEW DRIVERS: Student Parking Passes are sold year round in the Principal’s office. You must have a valid NHS Parking Permit and be parked in a legal spot to avoid getting a ticket. All numbered spots, areas in front of gates and dumpsters, and grass is off limits to students. NHS staff will be monitoring all parking areas throughout the school day. Students who already have a parking sticker must pick up their new hang tag as soon as possible in order avoid getting a ticket. You may pick up your hang tag in the Principal’s office before/after school, in between classes, or during lunch. Students who need a Certificate of Attendance in order to get their Drivers Permit or License may sign up in the Attendance office. Allow a one day turnaround. PARENT/COMMUNITY: Our next Cougar Coffee is this Friday, Oct. 31, from 7:15 – 7:45 a.m. in the AV room. We welcome any parents, guardians and community stakeholders to discuss timely topics. Parent Link Up activities are listed on our website www.cowetaschools.org/nhs and in the Student Handbook. TESTING: ASVAB – Test date: Nov. 10 For students who want to explore military and other career options. Sign up in the Guidance office. SAT – Next test date: Nov. 8, Registration deadline has passed but you may still register late (extra fee). Late deadline by paper is Oct. 24, online/phone late deadline is tomorrow Oct. 28. Compass Test – For students exploring technical schools. Test date: Nov. 12, at Newnan High, Sign up in Guidance office. CAFETERIA: If you owe money to the cafeteria you need to pay them as soon as possible. Anyone with charges will be given an alternative lunch until charges are paid in full! NEWNAN HIGH ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR 10/27/14 STUDENT CLUBS/ACTIVITIES: Lit Wits: Join LitWits this Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:45 a.m. in room 401 for a discussion of Will Grayson, Will Grayson. Remember to Bring Your Own Mug! Fishing Club: Meets 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 8:00 a.m. in room 710. Mock Trial: Practices on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. and on Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. every week in room 1104. STUDENT JOBS/LEADERSHIP: JGG will meet tomorrow, Oct. 28 and Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:45 a.m. in room 103. Chick-fil-A Leader Academy: Members please plan to meet on Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Mrs. Shaunte Henderson’s room 1043. If you were not able to attend the kick-off event but did complete your application you are welcome to attend. ATHLETICS: Girls Basketball: Tryouts will be tomorrow, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the New Gym. Girls Soccer: Conditioning begins tomorrow, Oct. 28, from 3:45 – 4:30 p.m. Meet Coach Henderson in the weight room. You must have all paperwork and a current physical to participate. Any questions see Coach Henderson in room 216. Lacrosse: Any boy or girl playing Lacrosse in the spring this year must attend a mandatory parent and athlete meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the 9th grade cafeteria on either Tuesday, Nov. 4 or Thursday, Nov. 6. If you cannot attend one of these meetings, you MUST see Coach Garner or contact Coach Skinner. FUNDRAISERS: FCCLA/Serendipity: FCCLA is pleased to announce that Serendipity here TODAY, Oct. 27 for its annual one-day fundraiser. Students may make purchases during lunch in room 109. Staff may visit throughout the day from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Serendipity has purses, wallets, accessories, tote bags, make-up bags, initial items and lots more – most of which can be personalized with monogramming. Your favorite collegiate and Newnan High colors will be available also. Wrestling: The Newnan High Coffee Shop is back! Get your java fix for $1 in the Old Gym while supporting your favorite Wrestling team!! COLLEGE VISITS/PREP: SENIORS: STUDENT ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT: SAT/ACT Skills Review via computer is available during Saturday School, free of charge. Students may sign up with his/her administrator. NHS staff will assign SAT/ACT review activities. The Learning Lab in the 9th grade Media Center is open for students before and after school Monday – Thursday. The Learning Lab has computers, tutors, and quiet spaces where students can work on writing skills, homework, and assigned Edgenuity credit repair/credit recovery work. A math tutor is available in the NEWNAN HIGH ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR 10/27/14 mornings from 7:00 – 8:15 a.m. and writing help is available after school from 3:40 – 5:00 p.m. Please see Ms. Hall in the 9th grade office if you have questions. Tutors Available: The Guidance Office has a list of available tutors to help with your studies. Lunch PALS: Student tutors are available during lunch to help as needed. Upperclassmen - Monday and Wednesday tutoring will take place in 303 Learning Lab all 4 lunch shifts. Freshmen - Tuesday and Thursday tutoring will take place outside the 9th grade cafeteria all 4 lunch shifts. 9th grade students wishing to be tutored can receive a “fast pass” for their school lunch tray from Mrs. Finger. DAILY REMINDERS: If you purchased a yearbook last year, you may pick it up in the Principal’s Office before or after school and during all lunches.
