5th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: “Then the fever left her
and she waited on them.” What a day for this woman! She
had been confined to bed, burning with a fever, too sick to
move around. Then, her son-in-law showed up with his
brother, two friends, and a man with a growing reputation for
working miracles. With no ceremony, this man came straight
over to her, took her hand and helped her to her feet. There
was no time to question Jesus’ bold action because in an
instant, the woman was healed. Whatever
He had done had worked!
We can
imagine that the appearance of this group
of guests at her house caused Simon’s
mother-in-law some distress; in her illness,
she had been unable to offer them the
hospitality so important in that culture. But
as soon as the fever disappeared, she
regained the freedom to properly welcome
her visitors. No longer sick, she was able
to serve. And that was exactly what she wanted to do.
Without hesitation, she began to use her restored health to
care for others. Soon enough, her hospitality was extended
to new levels because “the whole town was gathered at the
door” to see Jesus in action. How do we use our health? Do
we think of it as a gift from God to be put at the service of
others? Or do we think of good health as simply our own
right? Today’s virtuous woman teaches us about a kind of
physical generosity. Recognizing that her health had been
given to her as a gift, she in turn offered her strength, her
ability to stand and walk and work, as a gift to others. What
a beautiful way to understand the human body. Instead of
focusing on how our bodies can serve us, may we follow the
example of this woman who was so quick to attend to the
needs of her family, her friends, and her neighbors.

PIEROGI MAKING is this Monday. There is a morning
shift beginning at 9:00 A.M. to make the potato balls. The
evening shift starts at 5:00 P.M. to make the dough, the
pierogies, and to par-cook the pierogies. Because we
canceled last Monday, and very few volunteers turned out
on Tuesday, we were unable to make as many pierogies
as we had planned. We hope this Monday the turnout will
be better, so that we have enough to sell for Lent.
HOME MADE PIEROGI SALE will be after all the Masses
next weekend. Pierogies are sold 2 dozen in a bag for $10
per bag.
CONFIRMATION INTERVIEWS: Individual interviews for
our Confirmation students are being set up on Tuesday
evening over the next month. If you have finished all your
requirements to date, and received notification, then you
will need to sign up in the CCD office for an interview with
Father Rich.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PARENTS’ MEETING will be
in the Church on Thursday, February 26th, at 7:00 P.M. All
information will be given as to the dates and times of the
Masses, expectations of the students, practice schedules
and ordering information for DVD’s. Each child should be
represented at this meeting.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP: Students
from grades eight through twelve (who have
received Confirmation) are most welcome to join
the High School Youth Group. Meetings are
held every two weeks. Next meeting is tonight
(Sunday) at 6:00 P.M.
CATCH THE SPIRIT at our Catholic Schools in Monroe
County. Open Houses were just held at the
schools, but that doesn’t mean you can’t
call and go see the school. If you are
interested in a good quality Catholic
education for your children, stop in and see
one of these fine schools. Just give them a call and set up a
time to visit.

RETROUVAILLE WEEKEND: The weekend is for married
couples who may be experiencing tension, stress or
loneliness in their marriage relationship. The program helps
couples, even those separated and divorced, to
communicate better and resolve conflicts in the relationship.
It is scheduled to be held at the Ramada Inn in Clarks
Summit (just north of Scranton) on the weekend of February

PARISH BREAKFAST sponsored by the Holy Name
Society is next Sunday, February 15th, after
all the Sunday morning Masses. A
delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs or
omelets-to-order, bacon or sausage, home
fires, pancakes and waffles will be served.
Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children from 5-12 years.
Plan to attend and enjoy some good food, good company,
and good conversation.
SCOUT MASS: During the month of
February, we honor our boys and girls who
serve in scouting. We invite all scouts,
boys, girls, cubs, daises and their leaders
to a special Mass on Sunday, February
22nd, at 9:30 A.M. All scouts are asked to come in uniform.
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: Bishop Bambera and
the Office of Parish Life invite couples celebrating their 25th
or 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2015 to a Diocesan
Wedding Anniversary Mass on June 7, 2015. The event
includes Mass at 2:30 P.M. at St. Peter’s Cathedral
followed by a reception. Please call the parish office if you
would like to attend this celebration.
