JOB DESCRIPTION BRADFORD DISABILITY SPORT AND LEISURE POST TITLE SPORT DEVELOPMENT OFFICER POST REFRANCE B D S L / S D O The following information is designed to help BDSL employers and those people considering joining Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure (BDSL) to understand and appreciate the work content of their post and the role they are to play in the organisation. PRINE OBJECTIVES OF THE POST: 1. To create and increase opportunities in physical activity and sport for disabled people across the Bradford, reflecting BDSL’s Vision, Purpose and Aims. 2. To develop and be responsible for existing BDSL provision. 3. To plan, develop, facilitate and implement sustainable programmes and opportunities across the Bradford District which enable disabled people to be involved in physical activity and sport which reflects BDSL’s Vision, Purpose and Aims. 4. To work in partnership with local communities, organisations, groups, individuals, clubs, schools and other agencies, to ensure that sport and physical activity programmes are provided for disabled people across the Bradford District. SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To be responsible for the supervision and direction of employees temporarily employed as coaches within development and activities programmes and sessions. 2. To be responsible for the supervision and direction of current and future volunteers. 3. To be responsible for ensuring that the Health and Safety policies, practices and guidelines of BDSL are implemented. SUPERVISION AND GUIDANCE 1. Line management from BDSL’s Development Manager from whom guidance will be received on a regular basis and on all major matters RANGE OF DECISION MAKING 1. Decision on programmes and activities to be developed ensuring needs of the client group are fully taken into account. Operational decisions taken on a day to day basis. Policy decisions referred to the Development Manager. RESPONSIBILITY FOR ASSETS 1. 2. Responsibility for sport and recreational equipment. Access to confidential information regarding individual’s client’s circumstances. Where appropriate, to handle cash/cheques in line with financial regulations, policies and procedures. Range of duties 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. Develop specific projects related to the post. Participate in project planning and management with relevant colleagues and partners. To develop and maintain partnerships with statutory, private and voluntary providers in order to meet the sporting and leisure needs of disabled people. To produce and implement action plans, monitoring and evaluation reports for the BDSL Development Manager as required including financial management. Coordinate the operation of on-going projects or programmes. Seek funding for specific projects and maintain overall financial budgetary control and monitoring of projects. Assist the BDSL Office with the development of marketing and promotional materials appropriate to the individuals and groups the post will work with. To encourage and increase the capacity of communities, organisations and individuals in the district by organising and facilitating where necessary, coaching programmes. Develop competitive opportunities for disabled people in partnership with local, regional and national organisations. Assist in the identification and undertaking of his/her own training and development requirements. To increase the number of volunteers assisting in the development of disability sport in the district. To have knowledge of, and to link into, appropriate local, regional and national strategies. To undertake other duties of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the post holder’s supervisor, the Development Manager, in consultation with the post holder. To develop and work in partnership with a range of key strategic partners e.g. Bradford Metropolitan District Council, West Yorkshire Sport, Schools, Universities and other Disabled Peoples Organisations (DPO’S) To be available to work unsociable hours including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. To do all this in accordance with the Equal Opportunities Policy of the charity.
