THE WEEK AT A GLANCE Weekly Newsletter, Year 4, Issue 13 THIS WEEK AT ICC September 9 through September 15, 2013 MONDAY On Monday, September 9, the ICC will begin this month’s Documentary Film Series featuring films about Maine with the showing of “Discoveries American: Maine.” Maine is a visual feast of culture and scenic highlights of a state whose wilderness, lakes, rivers and dramatic coastline form a rugged, beautiful environment. Come and watch this film about the beauty of Maine. This is a FREE event. WEDNESDAY Join us for A Little Dinner & Music from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Cafe where we will be serving dinner. Music begins at 6:00 PM, musicians to perform will be announced at a later date. On September 11 Lasagna will be on the menu and on September 25 as the weather cools down we’ll be warming things up with Chili. Dining parties wishing to reserve a table for Sept. 11 or Sept. 25 are encouraged to RSVP at 8200. Come enjoy an evening out at the ICC. Community Movie Night Friday, September 13 1:00 PM This Friday, September 13 at 7:00 PM we'll be hosting Community Movie Night. The film we’ll be showing is “Scary Movie 5” [PG-13] [1 hr. 26 min.] Starring Ashley Tinsdale and Lindsey Lohan. All are invited to this FREE movie event. Popcorn & beverages will be available for purchase. At this year’s Fall Fest come and witness Atlantic Partners EMS demonstrate seat belt safety with their Convincer. Folk singer Paddy Mills will be performing live, chef and certified Health Coach Mimi McGee will be conducting cooking demonstrations and Waldo County’s local chapter of the Maine State Beekeepers Association will also be participating. Also featuring, fresh local food from West Bay Farm, 2nd Annual Pumpkin Derby race, pumpkins (for sale), apple cider, Chocolate Pie Slice Eating Contest, Gift Shop & Gallery Show, Basketball Shoot Tournament, Games for all ages, Sewing Circle Quilt Raffle, food & beverages, and More! The Islesboro Community Center will offer an on-island Drivers Education course beginning October 15. Classes will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday starting October 15 (ending on November 5) from 3:15 to 6:15. The course will consist of 30 classroom hours and 10 on-road driving hours. Any students who’d like to take advantage of this opportunity are asked to contact Greg at the ICC. The Zone’s Afterschool Program “Kidz Club” is Well-Received Kidz Club started last week and has had a great start. With nearly a dozen families taking advantage of the new afterschool program The Zone’s Kidz Club has been well-received. Kidz Club runs from 3:15 to 5:30 each day and operates Monday through Friday for grades K through 8. During our time with the children we will offer opportunities to do art projects, science projects, games, gross motor activities, watch movies and more. We hope to see your child at the Kidz Club! Last Year’s Successful Pumpkin Derby Returns For This Year’s Fall Fest We’ve heard you Islesboro! At your request the Cafe will remain open through September. The Cafe’s New Hours will be 12:00 to 1:30 PM, Monday thru Friday. There will be 2 categories for this year’s pumpkin racers; Youth -- 14 years and younger (Pumpkins decorated and raced by children, with parent if needed) Young Adults/Adults -- 15 years and up The winner of each group will race to see who will be this year’s Grand Champion and take home the trophy. There also will be prizes for scariest, funniest, and most creative pumpkin racers.
