J The Most Holy Trinity Page 1 Parish of the Holy Spirit SISTERS AND BROTHERS IN THE LORD - Well, it has been quite a week here where the Spirit is Alive and Faith keeps growing; a week of celebrations. Wow, what a Pentecost (parish feast) celebration last weekend. Our parish liturgies were filled with joyous song. Our Pentecost luncheon was greatly attended and great conversations. Our music and vocal concert was great. A huge thank you to Deb Russo and Mary Szotko our parish secretaries that kept food numbers and room reservations updated over a hectic week with pictures for our parish directory continuing, a Saturday wedding and the planning of a funeral for a lifelong parishioner Ginny Schmitt. Great to see so many people wearing RED to physically show our belief and reliance upon the Holy Spirit. Thank You to Joe Houdek, our music director for all the planning and practicing needed with our musicians and vocals to have such a great concert Sunday afternoon A Great way to end our Easter Season. Now we are back to our Ordinary Time in the liturgical calendar. The readings at our Masses will continue where they left off just before Lent. There is not really anything “Ordinary” about the life of Christ, but in our ordinary, routine lives we can forget the blessed in the Ordinary. As one person told me many years ago, the devil is in the details. There are many details in our lives but the reflecting on the bigger picture of our salvation should and will guide us in letting God guide us, rather than us doing it all alone. As we are half way through our month of May there are many celebrations coming up. This weekend we will ask God’s blessing on our graduating High School Seniors. At the 10am mass we ask God to guide these young graduates and guide their endeavors. We also celebrate with them and their parents a light lunch to highlight a meal together which goes a long way in our relationships. Thank You to our High School Junior parents and students for providing this breakfast. We also will be having our parish blood drive on Sunday. The parish Knights of Columbus council will be hosting this much needed service from 8am – 1:30pm. Take time today to consider donating to so many who rely upon others for life. The Knights of Columbus will also be having their membership drive after Masses. The Knights of Columbus organization has been around a long time and it is a fraternal order that supports Family, Church and Community. I have been a member since I was 18 yrs old and found them to be a great asset to our Church. To all the men of the parish, consider becoming a member to provide for others. See ya in Church Fr John P.S. Get those CSA pledge cards in so we can wrap up our campaign this month. Quote of the day – “Experience is something you do not get until just after you need it.” Come and celebrate with Fr. Tom Cavera at his first Mass at Holy Spirit on Sunday, June 12 10:00am Coffee & cookies to follow in the Multipurpose Room Hope you will join us! Looking Ahead for Religious Ed!!! ([email protected] Please pray for the soul of Ginny Schmitt, whose funeral Mass was celebrated this past week. May she, and all our faithful departed, rest in eternal peace. 453-1591) We are in need of faith-filled individuals to be catechists and catechist assistants in the coming school year for our Wednesday night program. If you are willing to share your faith with our young people, please contact the Religious Education Office for an interview. Training will be provided and is available online over the summer months. Do you know someone interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the faith? Contact the Religious Education Office now so they can begin their journey and will be ready to partake in the Rite of Acceptance in the fall. Attention all parents of children entering the First Grade at a public school in the fall. Now is the time to register your child for Religious Education so we can be sure to have enough resources available when classes start in the fall. The Most Holy Trinity PARISH BUSINESS WEEKLY Page 3 It has been a somber week in the parish office as we lay to rest a true parish servant & dear friend of mine. Ginny Schmitt will forever be remembered for her infectious giggle & get it done with a beautiful smile attitude. Her service to the parish dates back to 1958 where it is said that she was responsible for the school colors as the first Athletic Director. Working with virtually no budget, she went to the sporting goods store & picked out the uniforms that no one else wanted & went on to celebrate many championships with them. She possessed that unique gift of being able to tell you exactly “where to go” and have you looking forward to going there. This incredible lady raised eight children as a single mother in an era when single mothers were not looked upon favorably, and it was a joy to see her choir of 36 grandchildren fill the loft to sing a tribute to her at the funeral Mass. The Gospel message of “Mary and Martha” was read at her funeral, and Fr. Len appropriately pointed out that Ginny knew when to be Mary, and when to be Martha. Her life was a true example of Christian love & service for all of us to follow. I received a message from Deb Russo on the weekend prior to her passing saying that Ginny wanted to see the office staff. My only regret is that I didn’t get there in time, but I think she is smiling knowing that when I received the message of her passing I was in a meeting with our Educational Foundation trustees helping to promote her passion for Catholic education. She left instructions for memorial contributions to be made to the Holy Spirit Educational Foundation so that this great legacy of faith will continue to flourish at Holy Spirit, her beloved parish. Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus!… I will miss you Ginny. Here’s the thought for the week…”Is it true that all you get from a pampered cow is spoiled milk?” Have a blessed week and be generous in everything you do as Ginny was in her lifetime. Daryl Nowicki—Business Manager Diaconate Aspirancy Process: Inquiry for the Diaconate At this time, the Diocese of Grand Rapids is accepting inquiries from men interested in the diaconate. To be considered, an applicant must be a Roman Catholic at least 30 years of age (minimum age for ordination is 35), who is an active member of his parish (located within the Diocese of Grand Rapids) with the support of his Pastor. He must be in good health, of sound moral character, mature faith, regular practice in the sacramental life of the Church, and have a sense of vocation to service. If married, he must be in a valid Catholic marriage for a minimum of five years, have the support of his wife and family, and be in a strong, stable marriage. If unmarried, he must be willing and able to commit to celibacy. Although an upper age limit for application has not been established, the expectation is that ordained deacons will have the health and energy to provide a minimum of ten years of ordained ministry to the diocese of Grand Rapids. The deadline for inquiries to the Diocesan Aspirancy Process is August 12, 2016. All men who are interested in more information and/or applying are asked to contact Reverend Mark Przybysz, Diocesan Director, Office for Ministry & Life of Permanent Deacons, Diocese of Grand Rapids, for an appointment: [email protected] or 616-453-8229, extension 100. So before going on this trip I obviously knew that I was traveling to a third-world country and that things would be a lot different than what I knew at home.. but it didn’t really hit me until we reached Port-Au-Prince yesterday: so many cars and people walking around like crazy, people selling things everywhere, police with guns like it was no big deal. It’s really something that can’t be explained until you see it first person. Arriving in Seguin I’ve realized that it’s the little things in life that matter; the smiles, the hugs, the little waves, holding the kids’ hands, yelling Hello! And seeing a person’s entire day light up. I’ve been here for only two days now and I am completely and utterly IN LOVE with everyone and everything here. ~Maddie Sprite, Catholic Central Student NEXT PARISH BLOOD DRIVE TODAY, MAY 22!! 8:00 am - 1:30 pm Activities Center (Gym) Memorial Day Masses Monday, May 30th will be held at the following locations: Ss. My time spent in the Grand Rapids Catholic school system equipped me with the tools and the desire to attain that which I set my mind to, and to serve those around me. As I have progressed onward to Loyola University Chicago, I realize how fortunate and blessed I am to have attended Holy Spirit and West Catholic. I owe a great deal to the schools and their encouraging and helpful staff that helped me to realize my immense potential and aided in the success I have found thus far in life." ~Nick Coulson, Holy Spirit School Class of 2011 Attention all preschoolers-8th graders: Now is the time to register for next year. Please call the school office at 453-2772 to set up a tour of Holy Spirit School.
