A Mother’s Love
A Poem from THE TRUE SPOT: Words From Within by Jaudon Byrd
Thank God for a mother’s love, it’s the She didn’t always give me what I
wanted, but I always had what I
physical form of grace from above.
Her passion for genuine affection runs needed, Her confidence always gave
deep, I remember how it broke my heart me strength when I felt defeated,
to see her weep,
A mother’s love sprinkles joy on a daily
basis; she always gives her best effort to
put a smile on her kids faces.
She always tell me that I can be whatever I want to be, and that if I walked
with God all things are a possibility.
A mother’s love comforts my
insecurities, her wisdom guided me
through the tough days of my
immaturities, I apologized for the times
when I indulged in the world’s
impurities.
A mother’s love sees the right when I’m
wrong; she always knew the truth even if
I was lying all along; it always warms
my heart to hear her sing her favorite
song.
A mother’s love turns girls into
women and boys into men, mother's
should never feel neglected, all moms
need appreciation, their love needs to
be respected, think about the time and
energy our mother's invested to make
us feel protected.
“There is no other physical love that
can compare to”

Religious and nonprofit group leaders
defended President Barack Obama’s
spiritual beliefs and his administration’s support of faith-based groups,
rebuffing conservative accusations that
the White House is waging a war on
religion.
“It’s kind of silly season here. It’s an
election year and you are looking for
any leg up,” said the Rev. Joel Hunter,
senior pastor of Northland Church in
Orlando and a spiritual adviser who
writes weekly devotionals -- passages
of scripture with explanations -- for
Obama and regularly prays with the
president. “Anyone who knows him
will not question his personal faith or
devotion.”
Hunter spoke on a conference call with
eight religious and nonprofit leaders
organized by the Rev. Dr. Gary
Gunderson, senior vice president of
faith and health at Methodist
LeBonheur Healthcare in Memphis,
Tenn. Gunderson was in Washington,
D.C., last week for a meeting about
faith-based healthcare efforts and said
tense public debates over Obama’s
policies on religion and the president’s
personal faith motivated him to host
the discussion.
“The federal government’s relationship with faith-based groups is
stronger than ever,” said the Rev. Peg
Chemberlin, president emeritus of the
National Council of Churches.
“Religious freedom is respected” while
government partnerships with faithbased groups are expanding, she said.
The defense came as Republican
presidential contenders and
conservative figures have publicly
questioned the president’s faith. The
Rev. Franklin Graham, son of famed
evangelist Billy Graham, said he didn’t

The group’s defense of Obama follows
a stern warning issued by major
religious groups earlier this week that
told presidential candidates including
Santorum to keep religious attacks out
of the campaign. Another group of
more than 100 evangelical, mainline
and Catholic pastors, theologians, and
denominational heads have also signed
a petition to protest the use of religion
as a “political weapon.”

administration made a mistake in its
first release of the contraception
mandate in January that did not allow
an exemption for employers that
weren’t houses of worship. She said
the administration’s revision will
require religious employers that are

contraception covered in their

that coverage to insurance providers.
Civil rights organizations have long
pressured Obama to execute a
campaign promise he made in 2008 to

According to an article in Mother
Jones, Catholic religious charities have
received more than $650 million
during Obama’s presidency from the
Department of Health and Human
Services. The Conference of Catholic
Bishops has received $81.2 million in
federal grants from the HHS during
Obama’s first three years.

know whether Obama is Christian.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum said
Obama follows a “phony” theology
not based on the Bible. The faith-based
office created under President George
W. Bush has expanded during
Obama’s presidency, broadening partnerships between the government and
faith-based groups. The president’s
recent decision to require employers’
insurance plans to cover contraception
has stirred a debate about religious
freedom, namely from Roman Catholic hospitals, universities and social
service agencies. Southern Baptist
leaders and the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod have also aligned
themselves on the issue with the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops,
which opposes Obama’s rule.

Spiritually Speaking “The Rap on Christian Rap Music”
By: Min. Dallas A. Frazier
First off let me say that I am a hug fan
and supporter of today's youth. I feel
that they deserve praise when they
excel. And They also deserve to be
corrected when they are wrong. But I
always look forward to seeing a youth
develop into an awesome person and
watching their future develop. But
what really excites me is when a
young person whether its a child or
young adult decides to make the step
and give their lives to Jesus Christ.
They are saying that they want a better
life than what they have, and they
realize that Jesus is the only one that
can give it to them. The abundant life
that Jesus promised in the scriptures.
But many times we see some of those
same youth straying back into the
world. My personal opinion as to why
this happens is that many mature
Christians tell the youth to refrain
from doing the things they did before
they were saved. I do agree with this.
But in some cases their is nothing of
substance given to a young person to
replace the things that they have been
The Spiritual Messenger
accustomed to. Secular rap music is
one of these things. Personally I am
not a huge fan of today’s secular rap.
it does not glorify God. In some cases
artists don’t rap about sound moral
issues or situations. Most of what you
hear is about sex, sex and oh did I say
sex? A lot of times these artists take 3
to 4 minuets of precious air time to
boast about themselves, their cars,
their women, and their money. The
funny thing is these are just empty
written lyrics, rhythmically delivered
over a hot head bobbing beat. Most of
the artists don’t even live the lives
they rap about. But this is what young
people like, and little do they realize
they become influenced by the beats,
then the words, then the culture of
what these artists portray. But their is
a flip side to the whole rap/hip hop
situation. It’s called gospel rap or
“Holy Hip Hop”. Gospel rap is an
awesome alternative to the worldly
secular rap music. Gospel rap artists
glorify God with spiritually educated
and inspirational lyrics smoothly

delivered over some of the hottest
music beds you can find in gospel or
secular music. One artist that has
become a mainstay in the gospel rap
arena is “Da T.R.U.T.H.” his name
says it all. He raps the truth about
today’s society and its need for Jesus.
On his project “The Whole Truth” He
has a track called Impossible, which
uplifts the greatness and power of
God. He cries out “God can do the
impossible, only if you believe. He
specializes in doing big things. God
can do the impossible, anything that
you need, just get your eyes off things
that you see”. That’s a powerful message to relay to our youth about the
power of God and the enticing lour’s
of the world. Canton Jones one of my
personal favorites has a catalog of music to choose from that will make you
dance as well as praise. For example,
the cd “Canton Jones, The Live
Experience” Canton let’s you know
exactly how he feels about God in the
song “5 Seconds”. He says “I’m about
five seconds away from giving you the
most amazing praise. Five seconds
away from exploding like a time
bomb. I’m trying to stay calm, I feel

the fiya like Jeremiah. My praise is an
elevator that will take you higher. So
devil your a liar, I’m gonna get my
praise on, I’m gonna wild out like a
new convert, screaming like a kid at a
Hannah Montana concert”.
Canton’s lyrics can make you laugh
and praise simultaneously. All I’m
trying to say is let’s give gospel rap an
opportunity to do what it was created
to do. Uplift, spiritually educate and
morally empower the 21 century
young adult. Lets face it, although
“Amazing Grace” is a powerful song
and is beloved by our parents and
grandparents alike, the traditional
hymn does not mean the same to a
young person who doesn’t know or
been taught the cultural and spiritual
significance of the song. But let
Canton Jones Or Da T.R.U.T.H. take
that same song and lyrics and flow
with over a nice music bed and rap
some scripture to help solidify those
beloved lyrics, then you have music
that will mean just as much to today’s
generation of youth as it does to my
grandparents generation. But that just
my opinion.
