Director’s Column
Hi everyone!
It won’t be long now before we can
get some riding in. For me, it’s been
a long winter.
The birth of my daughter was by far
the best feeling I have ever had and
I would do anything for her. So
yeah, riding takes a distant second
to her and a Harley is not really a
good choice to transport a one year

Then, there is all the times you go

I ride a lot less to work.
Don’t get me wrong, my preferred
mode of transportation is my Harley.
I’m starting to understand why people put motorcycling aside for parts
of their life. It might be for raising a
family or a new job.

the National H.O.G. website: “All
H.O.G. chapters are sponsored by
an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer or retailer.”
The above statement clearly states
that without the support of our local
dealer, Conrad’s Harley Davidson,
there is no chapter. I bring this up so
that we can all take a step back and
make sure we realize that the support we receive from Conrad’s is vital
to our chapter’s existence. While the

one of you who participate play an
important role in making these
events, and ultimately, the dealership, succeed.
The dealership has given us liberal
use of their facility for meetings,
building floats, and storage space.
We’re always allowed to put out our
“tip” jar, and to hold our 50-50 raffles
for the benefit of the chapter. They
also recognize our members with bonus points on purchases, and generously extend reward points into our
accounts after our assistance at one
of the events. Let’s make sure we
keep the relationship we have with
our sponsoring dealer in perspective,
and not ever feel we are “owed” special privileges just because we are

The sponsor/chapter relationship is mutually
beneficial to us both.
On another note, it’s very exciting to see new
faces raising their hand to request positions of
leadership in the chapter. There will be some
new faces in the very near future filling our vacant leadership positions. Welcome them, give
them a pat on the back, and show them your
support for stepping up and taking the lead.

about 200 miles from the hotel and back to the
dealer. The next day over 10 inches of snow
fell on top of the mountain. Rain in San Diego,
all in all it was a great road trip.
As always, Ride Safe!

Shopping Trip – Biker Style
If you have never been to JP Cycles in Anamosa,
Iowa to do a little shopping I would recommend it.
I am Marty Samojedny and just joined Joliet
Hog’s officers group as the Membership officer.
Last June, I and my wife Carol joined Jerry and
Mel Fifer (Another Joliet Hog couple), on a two
day shopping trip to JP Cycles. Because Anamosa, Iowa is only 215 miles from downtown Joliet we could have made it a full one day trip and
saved some money but, that would have shortened the shopping hours.
The weekend we made this trip on, was the 33rd
J&P Cycles Open House Rally. This two day
event was on June 23 and 24, 2012. There were
over 30,000 bikes and 100 vendors at the open
house.
Like all good husbands, Jerry and I rode up and
back to Anamosa on Saturday afternoon to make
sure it was safe for our wives. We left Carol and
Mel at the Casino to guard our rooms. On Sunday we all rode up to Anamosa for the good part
of the day and made a number of vendor contributions. If you join the JP Cycles Gold Club they

nois for fine dining at Poopy’s Pub n’ Grub.
If you and/or your spouse are frequent visitors to
Isle Casino in Bettendorf Iowa, you can lower
your two day trip cost by getting complementary
rooms for the night. From Bettendorf to Anamosa
is a short trip.
All and all a great two days of shopping.
We will likely be tempted to repeat this trip this
year. The 34th J&P Cycles Open House Rally is
scheduled for June 29-30, 2013. If you have the
urge to shop put those days in your calendar.
Thanks for the opportunity,
Marty Samojedny
