A CELEBRATION IN
CHINOISERIE

To celebrate the 2565 Chinese New Year
and Year of the Wooden Horse, Pacific
Place held Chinoiserie Lunar Festival
from January 24 to February 23, 2014.
Inspired by the folklore of Ma Liang and
the Magic Brush, which tells the story of
a boy who brings object of his paintings
to three dimension using the power of
his Magic Brush, Pacific Place installed
a giant paper scroll of ancient Chinese
painting at the atrium, with 3D Chinese
garden popping up on the surface.
The decoration was inspired by
chinoiserie, a European artistic style
that bears heavy influence from Chinese
artistic style, with pink and pastels
being the dominant colors. Chinoiserie
also decorated dozens of origami horses
and pagodas that were hanged from
the ceiling and colored in a gradient
of red to pink. Paper-based materials
composed most of the decoration,
including the 12 signs in Chinese zodiac
that were placed around the mall, giving
visitors a brief of each sign’s characters.
The result? A dreamy installation that
captured the definite trait of the horse:
grace.
Grace and strength, another definite
trait of the horse, were also shown by all
the performances that happened from
Friday to Sunday: 1,000 Hands Dance
and Silk Dance, Barongsai and Dragon
Dance, as well as duet and quartet of
strings. To the audience’s surprise and
delight, the performers incorporated
modern music to their set, such as the
Barongsai dancing to Zedd’s Clarity or
the string quartet playing the music of
Adele, Bruno Mars and Lenka.

To welcome the last Valentine’s Day, Galeries Lafayette
decided to turn the evening of February 12 into a crash
course on seductive sexiness for the ladies, holding an
event called Valentine’s Lingerie Trunk Show. Flirtatious
and curvaceous, models walked their sexy walk in Wacoal,
Huit, Agent Provocateur, Chantelle, Implicite, Mimi
Holliday, Passionata, Pleasure State, Scandale, and Simone
Pérèle. If you recognize any of these names, you can
imagine what a sexy parade the night must have been!
But the night wasn’t just about the garment. It was also
about having fun! Hosted by Ayla Dimitri, Laura Basuki,
Margaret Vivi, Vera Dharmadi, and Wulan Guritno,
the all-female guests also indulged in chocolates, sax
performance by Dennis Juo, selfies in photo booth, love
life-reading by a Tarot reader, and cupcakes. The last one
was perhaps the most appealing as a ring was hidden
inside one of the cupcakes, waiting for a lucky guest to bite
and wear it, not swallow it.
As sexy as the event was, it was also held in awareness
of breast cancer. In partnership with Yayasan Kesehatan
Payudara Jakarta, the event created and sold special Pink
Ribbon pins. Proceeds from sales of the pins went to
benefit the foundation. Valentine’s Day might have passed,
but any day can be a day to flirt with what’s under your

Manado,

at the heart of Senandung Untuk Negeri, a
fund-raising event held at Hard Rock Cafe on
February 5, 2014.
event brought together live performances by
some of the biggest names in Indonesian music
industry, such as Slank, Glenn Fredly, Kerispatih,
Once, Alexa, Yacko, Barry Likumahuwa Project,
Budi Doremi, Cherrybelle, and more. As an

also greeted
the audience.

and donators were able to get a table for Rp
10 Million. The event managed to raise no less
than Rp 400 Million in donation, all to help the
recovery in Manado.

Korean invasion has definitely reached Pacific Place and we willingly
submit! Why wouldn’t we when we can have Kyochon’s deliciously healthy
fried chicken wings for dinner with two members of Super Junior? Yup,
Kangin and Ryeowook were at Pacific Place on February 10, especially to
celebrate the grand opening of Kyochon’s first outlet in Indonesia at Pacific
Bay, Level 4.
As are other opening ceremonies, there were speeches and ribbon-cutting
at Kyochon’s, which all went smoothly amidst dozens of ELF (SuJu’s fans)
that came to catch a glimpse of their idols. But the real star of the event
was, of course, the chicken wings. Once declared by NBC New York as The
Best Chicken Wings, they are served in three flavors at Kyochon: original,
spicy (Red Wings), and honey. Kyochon also serves Soy Sal Sal chicken
strips, salads, kimchi fried rice, and more.
Besides VIPs and the press, those who got to enjoy Kyochon’s menu were
100 of lucky ELFs who won a pass to meet and greet with Kangin and
Ryeowook at blitzmegaplex after the grand opening. The two attended
the event as SuJu was ambassador of the brand and its “stylish taste”. Want

focuses on the Battle of Artemisium between Greece
and the Persian Empire during the latter’s second
