AFÉAS DE SAINT-CHARLES-GARNIER
The AFÉAS, Voix des femmes d’influence (voices of influential
women), brings together 10 000 Quebec women (1000 in
the Eastern Townships) from all walks of life to share their
skills and concerns. They reflect on women’s rights and
responsibilities, and take action for social change, both
individually and as a group.
Activity and Cost
The AFÉAS shares the vision of philosopher Sylvianne Agacinski
who wrote in La plus belle histoire de femmes: “Diversity will
lead to a new world. From now on, we must not consider the
future of women or men but of society where they live side by
side.” This is how, from now on, the 10 000 Voix des femmes
influentes of the AFÉAS will be heard.

INFOSHERBROOKOIS | Winter 2011-2012
In the Boroughs
Borough of Mont-Bellevue
The Parc du Mont-Bellevue is the city’s largest park and the
one that offers the most activities.
Walking
(please consult the trail map posted at the entrances):
Three entrances
• Antonio-Pinard chalet (1440, rue Brébeuf)
• Parking lot on rue Dunant (corner of Thibault)
• Université de Sherbrooke
•Certain sections of the trail that surround the mountain are reserved exclusively for skiers.
Downhill skiing
The most popular winter activity! See the “Sports and
Recreation – Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding” section,
pages 42 and 43.
Cross-country skiing
New Dunant – A.-Pinard section:
•The newly acquired land on the east side, next to rue Dunant,
allowed for the development of a less steep slope, from the Dunant parking lot towards the A.-Pinard chalet.
•Skiers can completely circle the park – a 6-km trail!
Improved trail maintenance:
•The purchase of a snow groomer such as the one used
at Mount Orford will soften the snow and create tracks.
•In the centre of the park, the trails on Mont J.S.-Bourque are
reserved exclusively for walkers; these more natural trails are
maintained to make walking easier.
Snowshoeing
•Snowshoers do not appreciate trails that have been packed by walkers and skiers. An area west of the downhill skiing
area, used for mountain biking in summer, has been
exclusively reserved for snowshoeing.
•Travelling in protected areas, even in snowshoes,
can be catastrophic.

MONT-BELLEVUE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
COMMUNITY LIFE
The Neighbourhood Watch committee thanks you for your
ongoing support. Together, with the help of the police
department’s community safety division, we will succeed
at having the kind of neighbourhood surveillance we wish
to have.
Shredding your old documents is an effective way to prevent
identity theft. Take part in our various activities that include
shredding, engraving, a rally and seminars offered by the
community safety division.
This year, we will advise of you committee meetings by mail,
but also by the community safety division’s mediaphone. Visit
the committee’s Web site (http://surveillancedequartier.
org) for monthly statistics for all areas. Under the “Documents
électroniques” heading, you’ll find interesting PowerPoint
presentations on how to protect your home, as well as tips
from the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Each month in the Regards newspaper, you’ll find an article
on what you should be watching for in your neighbourhood
depending on the time of the year.
Let’s hope for a great year!

Pride, loyalty and perseverance
The Army Cadet program offers challenges, friendship and
adventure. It aims to develop in youth the attributes of good
citizenship and leadership, and promote physical fitness. All of
this is carried out in an environment that develops the ability
to meet many challenges, thanks to the cooperation of the
Canadian Forces.
The Cadet program is the largest youth organization in
Canada. Sponsored by the federal government, it is a civilian
movement in which young people are not enlisted as members
of the military. Activities, instruction and optional activities
may include: adventure camping, marching, precision shooting,
biathlon, military music, climbing, as well as map and compass
work in the woods.
• The possibility of gaining new skills and accepting challenges.
• A program promoting good physical condition.
• Getting involved in your community.
• The possibility of paid summer employment at a camp.
Try it, you’ll love it! Come see us one Monday evening.
Registration at any time of year.
