ages 8 to 12 (imitation stained glass, sewing, painting,
scrapbooking, carpentry, horticulture, etc. based on the
activities the “grandparents” would like to lead)… Or, come
and organize a workshop based on your skills and interests.

•Thursday afternoon: Discover acrylic painting (classes are
free, materials must be purchased). An instructor will be

Come to our dance workshops on folk dancing and other

“Petites Maisons des Grands-Parents” program
Would you like to help out at an elementary school? This
program is for you! It takes place in various elementary
schools and involves help with reading, story time, help with
the daycare service, sharing traditions, and other things based
on specific requests.

Every Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30, come for coffee
and a chat, or participate in an inexpensive and fun family
event.
Interested in acting? Starting in September, you can get involved
in a theatre production under the guidance of a theatre director.
One rehearsal per week and two performances in May 2014.

JEVI lottery
Under the honorary chairmanship of Michel Roy, Director
General of the Carrefour de l’Estrie, the 28th edition of the
annual Loterie JEVI fundraising campaign was launched on
April l, and will continue until June 12, the evening of the
draw. The goal is to sell all 500 tickets issued, bringing in a
total of $75 000. Achieving this goal will allow us to continue
to offer professional services free of charge.
You can buy a $150 ticket as a group, if you sign a group

Activities This summer, the Coalition sherbrookoise pour le travail de
rue will have three types of employees working with young
people, each with their own mandate. In addition to the regular
outreach team, there will be workers in park areas (for youth
aged 12 to 17), and on the “Mallatruc” team (for children aged
9 to 12).
The Coalition’s members offer, on a voluntary basis, a nonrepressive, confidential, and egalitarian approach. It focuses
on prevention, providing support, raising awareness, educating,
and providing referrals.
Some parks and boroughs will be visited by the Macadam J bus,
where young people will be able to meet with Coalition workers.

Recruiting volunteers
Réseau d’amis is able to provide services thanks to
the involvement of many volunteers. We are always looking
for new volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved
with one of the services offered by Réseau d’amis, please
contact us.
We are currently in urgent need of volunteers living in
the northern sector of the city, who have a car for our
transportation-accompaniment service. All it takes is a
minimum of a half day per week to make all the difference in
the life of an older person!

Program descriptions
Traditional pairing
This program is designed for children ages 7 to 14 from singleparent families and/or who are in need of the presence of a
significant adult role model. The volunteer meets with the child
for three to four hours a week, for a minimum of one year.
Mentor at school
The mentor at school program is unique, as it takes place
entirely within the school environment. The young participants
demonstrate signs of being at risk of quitting school and/or
they are not working to their full potential. Volunteers meet
with the children for 90 minutes per week at noon hour, at the
child’s school, where they participate in various activities and
enjoy spending time together.
Go Girls!
This program is designed for girls ages 8 to 12 and addresses
three issues: nutrition, active lifestyle, and personal wellbeing. It strives to help young girls make informed decisions in
terms of a healthy lifestyle and enhance their self-image. The
program runs for seven weeks, 90 minutes each meeting.
Seeking volunteers!
We are always looking for volunteers of both genders for our
various programs. If you or someone you know is interested
in getting involved with helping children, our staff will be
pleased to answer all your questions.

Just a few hundred metres from the Lac-des-Nations

Mont-Bellevue Neighbourhood Watch
If there’s something that shouldn’t be seasonal, it’s how
neighbours can help each other by keeping an eye out for
suspicious activity.
It has been clearly demonstrated that neighbourhood watch
programs reduce thefts and other crimes. But for this to be
effective, there must be well-established cooperation among
neighbours. The Neighbourhood Watch committee is there to
support neighbours who want to get organized to establish a
direct channel of communication with various services, including
the police department, through the community safety division,
and the city, through the Borough of Mont-Bellevue.
The Mont-Bellevue Neighbourhood Watch committee
invites anyone interested in getting involved or seeking
more information to attend its meetings. An officer from the
community safety division attends the meetings that are held
at the Précieux-Sang church located at 785, rue Thibault in
Sherbrooke.

Scouting offers the chance to experience life, projects, and
challenges and to take action in a spirit of group involvement.
It’s also about respecting nature and much more.
Who is it for? For girls and boys ages 7 to 17 who want to
enjoy experiences that are both fun and educational.
Through scouting, our young people develop a sense of
responsibility, which helps them become well-rounded and
responsible citizens! Our activities focus on learning through
experience. Come and learn while having fun!

For nearly 19 years now, the Maison des jeunes
Azimut Nord has been working with kids aged 12
to 18. Our dynamic and qualified team has developed
an expertise enabling its members to develop significant
connections with teenagers, helping them become active,
critical, and responsible citizens. Through various prevention
and promotional activities created by and for young people we
have succeeded in attaining this central objective. We also try
to foster the social and emotional development of young people
through various social activities. Also, to help these adults of
tomorrow understand and take their place in society as early
as possible, the Maison des jeunes Azimut Nord is always proud
to be involved in the community!

Pride, loyalty, and perseverance
The Army Cadet program offers challenges, friendship, and
adventure. It aims to develop in youth the attributes of good
citizenship and leadership, and promote physical fitness. All of
this is carried out in an environment that develops the ability
to meet many challenges, thanks to the cooperation of the
Canadian Forces.
The Cadet program is the largest youth organization in
Canada. Sponsored by the federal government, it is a civilian
movement in which young people are not enlisted as members
of the military. Activities, instruction, and optional activities
may include: Adventure camping, marching, precision
shooting, biathlon, military music, climbing, as well as map
and compass work in the woods.
