July 31, 2016 eighteenth Sunday of ordinary time Six years ago, we held our first Christ Renews His Parish Retreat weekends here at the Cathedral. It was an exciting time for the giving team from St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell as well as for the first parishioners from Christ the King who went through the CRHP experience. Twelve retreats later, there are almost 800 parishioners who have had their faith renewed and are “paying it forward,” renewing our parish by serving on the parish and finance councils and leading many of our most vibrant ministries. 2699 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30305 404-233-2145 Next Sunday, CRHP will host the inaugural CTK Coffeehouse in its new location in Conference Room 1 & 2 on the Lower Level. I hope you will go downstairs for a doughnut, cup of coffee and learn how your faith can be renewed during the upcoming men’s and women’s retreats. If you haven’t made a CRHP weekend, consider doing so. The dates are August 20-21 for the women; August 27-28 for the men. Sign up at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org/CRHP. Most of the Parables shared by the Lord in Holy Scripture address the issue of possessions and how we treat them, how we use them as a measurement of success. Consistently those who write about the challenges we face in living lives of stewardship point to this same problem. Jesus certainly understood it. Christ was living in a society that was very different from that we experience today, but that basic difficulty existed then, as it does now. The problem is not that possessions exist, but that they can become the dominant motivation in our lives and how we live them. The Lord cautions us, as He does in the Parable of the Rich Fool from today’s Gospel, that storing up treasure and possessions means that we may be wealthy in the eyes of society, but not in “what matters to God.” This is one of our ongoing stumbling blocks to being stewards living a Christian life. Our Holy Father Pope Francis speaks often about this same problem. In a recent homily he said, “True joy does not come from things or from possessing. It is born from the relationship with others; it is born from feeling accepted, understood, and loved, and from accepting, understanding, and loving. It is saying to one another, ‘You are important to me,’ not ‘What you have is important to me.’ Possessions are nothing but an illusion.” Taken from Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc. 9 CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE KING CATEDRAL DE CRISTO REY 2699 Peachtree Road NE Atlanta, GA 30305 MISIÓN CATÓLICA DE CRISTO REY 3349 Buford Highway, Suite 17A1 Brookhaven, GA 30329 (a la mano derecha de Briarwood Rd) MINISTERIO HISPANO Padre Feiser MuñozTeléfono 404-267-3696 Horario Lunes a Viernes 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CELEBRACIÓN EUCARÍSTICA Capilla Martes Kenny Hall Sábado Catedral Domingo Misión Domingo EN ESPAÑOL 7:00 PM 5:00 PM 1:30 PM 9 AM & 11 AM CONFESIONES Lunes y Miércoles 7:15 - 7:45 AM 6:00 - 6:30 PM Sábados 8:30 - 9 AM / 3 - 4:00 PM Misión Domingos 9:00 - 9:30 AM Otros días, previa cita únicamente.
