Bulletin - Cathedral of Christ the King
July 31, 2016
eighteenth Sunday of ordinary time
Six years ago, we held our first Christ Renews His
Parish Retreat weekends here at the Cathedral. It
was an exciting time for the giving team from St.
Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell as well
as for the first parishioners from Christ the King
who went through the CRHP experience. Twelve
retreats later, there are almost 800 parishioners
who have had their faith renewed and are “paying
it forward,” renewing our parish by serving on the
parish and finance councils and leading many of
our most vibrant ministries.

Next Sunday, CRHP will host the inaugural CTK
Coffeehouse in its new location in Conference
Room 1 & 2 on the Lower Level. I hope you will
go downstairs for a doughnut, cup of coffee and
learn how your faith can be renewed during the
upcoming men’s and women’s retreats. If you
haven’t made a CRHP weekend, consider
doing so. The dates are August 20-21 for the
women; August 27-28 for the men. Sign up at
www.cathedralofchristtheking.org/CRHP.

The Archdiocese of Atlanta has launched a new Safe
Environment Volunteer Training program. It is the
hope of Archbishop Gregory to continue to give clergy,
staff and volunteers the tools needed to build a loving
and safe place for all God’s Children to grow in faith. All NEW volunteers working
with children and vulnerable individuals are required to complete an in-person
course “Protecting God’s Children” prior to volunteering. Our next Cathedral
offerings will take place in CKS Media Center on Saturday, August 13th 9 am-12
pm, Wednesday, August 17th 9 am-12pm and Tuesday, August 23rd 6 pm-9 pm

Stewardship Reflection on Today’s Readings
In the Parable of the Rich Fool, Jesus said to the crowd, “Take care to guard
against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of
possessions.” (Lk 12:15). Most of the Parables shared by the Lord in Holy
Scripture address the issue of possessions and how we treat them, how we use
them as a measurement of success. Consistently those who write about the
challenges we face in living lives of stewardship point to this same problem.
Jesus certainly understood it.
Christ was living in a society that was very different from that we experience
today, but that basic difficulty existed then, as it does now. The problem is
not that possessions exist, but that they can become the dominant motivation
in our lives and how we live them.
The Lord cautions us, as He does in the Parable of the Rich Fool from today’s Gospel, that storing up treasure and possessions means that we may be wealthy in the eyes of society, but not in “what matters to God.” This is one of our ongoing stumbling blocks to being stewards living a Christian life.
Our Holy Father Pope Francis speaks often about this same problem. In a recent homily he said, “True joy does not
come from things or from possessing. It is born from the relationship with others; it is born from feeling accepted, understood, and loved, and from accepting, understanding, and loving. It is saying to one another, ‘You are important to
me,’ not ‘What you have is important to me.’ Possessions are nothing but an illusion.”

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND CATHEDRAL
COMMUNITY
Dear Friends in Christ,
Welcome! On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy,
the staff, and the whole Cathedral community, I welcome you to
the Cathedral of Christ the King. I pray that as you step into the
Cathedral, you not only experience the beauty of the
surroundings but also the vibrant spirit of the community
gathered.
We are an active parish of close to 6,000 families and over one
hundred ministries. Our mission statement to “Know, Love and
Serve as Jesus Did” is fulfilled by the sharing our gifts of time,
talent and treasure. If you are new, it is my hope that you will
join us and become part of this wonderful community. If you are
just visiting, it is a blessing to have you here and thank you for
worshiping with us. We hope you will come again.
If you would like to learn more about our community, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org. If you
would like to register at the parish, you can visit our reception
desk for a registration form.
I pray that your visit to the Cathedral was enjoyable and that you
truly experienced the goodness of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
