Bulletin - Cathedral of Christ the King
August 28, 2016
Twenty-second Sunday of ordinary time
With the unprecedented flooding in Louisiana and devastating wildfires in California, Archbishop Gregory has
asked us to do what we can to help those in need. This
weekend we will be having a second collection to help
those affected by the flooding. There is also information
below on how to donate electronically.
Catholic Charities USA serve those affected by natural
disasters that occur in the United States. They and their
member agencies respond to immediate emergency needs for such necessities
as water, food, shelter and medical care, as well as to the long-term need to rebuild and recover after widespread destruction. They also assist the United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops with pastoral and reconstruction needs
of the Church. Their address information follows:

collections and individual donations should
be directed to Catholic Relief Services (CRS):

Please keep this information on file. The important thing is not the way people
participate, but rather that they do. The people of God in our Archdiocese are
always incredibly generous in responding during these difficult moments. On
behalf of Archbishop Gregory, Catholic Charities USA, and Catholic Relief Services, thank you in advance for your participation in these important efforts.
May God bless all those affected by these most recent natural disasters.

Two important aspects of being a
Christian and being a good
steward: humility and
perseverance. Grasping those
does move us much closer to
wisdom and understanding.

Let’s Keep our Children & Vulnerable Adults
Safe Volunteer Training
The Archdiocese of Atlanta has launched a new Safe
Environment Volunteer Training program. It is the
hope of Archbishop Gregory to continue to give clergy, staff and volunteers the tools needed to build a
loving and safe place for all God’s Children to grow in faith. All NEW volunteers
working with children and
vulnerable individuals are required to complete an in-person course “Protecting
God’s Children” prior to volunteering. Our next Cathedral offerings will take
place in
Kenny Hall on Saturday, September 17th, 9 am-12pm, Thursday, September 22nd,
6 pm–9pm, Thursday, September 29th, 9am-12pm. Visit the Safe Environment
website at www.archatl.com to register for the class. Any volunteers needing rescreening (last background check completed 5 or more years ago) are also required
to complete this training. Only adults 18 and older are to attend and must arrive
ON TIME to receive credit for the training.
Stewardship of Treasure
If we really want to be exalted, we must have the patience and
humility and perseverance to wait for God to do it. That is what really
matters, not what we may perceive or grasp from our human
experiences. Jesus assures us that if we are humble and if we trust in
the Lord, we “will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

2016-17 School Year Begins!
On Thursday, August 11, 556 students began their first day of the 2016-17
school year at CKS. The bright shining faces and pristine uniforms are the
annual signs that a new school year has begun. The halls are once again filled
with the chatter of students and the energy and excitement that accompanies
each new year.
All new Kindergarten, pre-first and first grade students have been partnered
with an older student who befriended them over the summer. These Guardian
Angels meet their new student each morning for the first week of school, play
with them before the first bell, and make sure they get to their classroom on
time. This partnership between the older and younger students helps smooth
the transition into school and often grows into a friendship that lasts for years.
Older students who are new to CKS are assigned Student Ambassadors from
their grade who help to make the move to their new school an easy one.
These students meet during the summer to get to know one another and foster
friendships throughout the school year.
Founded in 1937, Christ the King School’s mission calls upon its faculty and
staff to nurture the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical
growth of its students while preparing them for active participation in and
contributions to the Church and the community. Programs like the Guardian
Angels and Student Ambassadors help to fulfill that mission.
Christ the King Catholic School, a K8 Archdiocesan parish school, located

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND CATHEDRAL
COMMUNITY
Dear Friends in Christ,
Welcome! On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy,
the staff, and the whole Cathedral community, I welcome you to
the Cathedral of Christ the King. I pray that as you step into the
Cathedral, you not only experience the beauty of the
surroundings but also the vibrant spirit of the community
gathered.
We are an active parish of close to 6,000 families and over one
hundred ministries. Our mission statement to “Know, Love and
Serve as Jesus Did” is fulfilled by the sharing our gifts of time,
talent and treasure. If you are new, it is my hope that you will
join us and become part of this wonderful community. If you are
just visiting, it is a blessing to have you here and thank you for
worshiping with us. We hope you will come again.
If you would like to learn more about our community, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org. If you
would like to register at the parish, you can visit our reception
desk for a registration form.
I pray that your visit to the Cathedral was enjoyable and that you
truly experienced the goodness of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
