Cathedral Deemed One of the “Most
Significant” among Atlanta Buildings
The Cathedral of Christ the King was recently featured in
the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s special edition of Top
Architectural Buildings in Atlanta.
The American Institute of Architects of Atlanta (AIA
Atlanta) identified 51 building designs in the city that
have the greatest impact architecturally. The Business
Chronicle listed all 51 buildings and profiled the top 13, which included the
Cathedral, that the AIA Atlanta deemed “most significant”.
The Cathedral, recognized as being “an example of French Gothic Revival
architecture, a style characterized by vaulting and pointed arches and thin
vertical piers with counterbalancing buttresses that had its origins in medieval
France,” joined other architectural wonders such as the High Museum of Art,
Fox Theatre, the Hinman Research Building, Martin Luther King Jr. Federal
Building, and the Candler Building.
The list included office buildings and places of worship, performance spaces
and research centers, and both new and historic spaces, organized by the era
in which they were built.

Elijah Cup
The “Elijah Cup” is a chalice that is presented to a family or individual each
Sunday at the conclusion of 9 am Mass. That family or individual takes the “Elijah
Cup” home and uses it as a focal point while praying daily for an increase in
religious vocations. To participate in the Elijah Cup, contact Gail Gaboardi at
[email protected].
Sponsors Needed for RCIA/Rite of Reception
Parishioners are needed to sponsor adults inquiring into the faith and preparing to
come into full communion with the Church. A sponsor is not required to have a
degree in theology but rather a listening, active and open heart. Time and again
past sponsors have experienced the privilege of being part of someone’s spiritual
journey into the Church.
When: Sundays through August 18, 10-11:45 am, Hyland Center Assembly
Room. Sacraments will be celebrated on Sunday, August 25 at the 7 pm Mass. For
additional information, email Aimee McDonald at [email protected].

Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
“Who do you say that I am?” Jesus asks Peter in today’s Gospel. Does my use of the gifts and
talents entrusted to me accurately reflect my answer to that same question? How willing am I
to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow in His footsteps?
Peter’s Pence Collection
Next week our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides the
Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable
works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression,
and disasters. Your gift makes you a pilgrim of charity around the globe.

Cavins beginning Monday, June 24 at 7 pm in the
Hyland Center Assembly Room for 8 weeks.
Engaging the Struggles of Your Heart, the next series
in the Walking Toward Eternity program, is a
challenging study that can open our eyes to obstacles
in our Christian walk such as greed, envy, fear and
shame. Through prayer, reflection, guidance, and the aid of the Holy Spirit,
we begin to engage these difficulties in a positive way as we continue toward
our goal of union with Christ. (Not necessary to have attended the first
series.). Registration Fee is $30.00 (workbook included). No refunds. Limited
partial scholarships are available.

FOCUS ON THE FAITH: Holy Orders
Along with Matrimony, the other sacrament of community and service is Holy Orders. In the
Catholic Church, sacred ministers, those who serve the spiritual needs of others, are ordained
by a bishop by means of Holy Orders, which, creates the hierarchy of deacon, priest, and
bishop.
This sacrament can be received only once, just like Baptism and Confirmation, but a man
may also be ordained to a higher order up to the third degree. A man must first be ordained a
deacon before being ordained a priest, and he must be ordained a deacon and then a priest
before being ordained a bishop. So every priest and every bishop has experienced the Sacrament of Holy Orders
more than once, yet he can never be re-ordained a deacon, priest, or bishop, because it’s for life.
Only baptized men can receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
Jesus Christ instituted the Sacrament of Holy Orders at the Last Supper simultaneously with His institution of the
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. To change bread and wine into the body and blood, soul and divinity of Christ, you
need priests who’ve been given this power by virtue of their ordination.
Bishops receive the highest level of Holy Orders, and it’s often said in the Church that bishops have the ‘”fullness of
the priesthood” because they alone have the authority to offer all seven sacraments: Baptism, Penance, Holy
Eucharist, Matrimony, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Confirmation. Priests have the power and authority
(also known as faculties) to celebrate only five: Baptism, Penance, Holy Eucharist (Mass), Matrimony, and
Anointing of the Sick. Deacons can celebrate only two: Baptism and Matrimony (provided that the wedding is
without a Nuptial Mass).

Summertime Stress Slowing You Down?
We like to think of summer as being a relaxing, enjoyable time. But
hurts, struggles, crises, and problems don't take a vacation.
Difficulties may seem even worse during the summer because
everyone else is enjoying life while you are feeling down. If you are experiencing a
difficult time--emotionally, spiritually, or relationally--you don't have to suffer
alone. Stephen Ministers are ready to listen, care for and encourage you, pray with
and for you, and provide one-to-one Christian care to help you through whatever
it is that you are facing. It's free and it’s confidential. It will make a difference in
your life!
Contact: Dottie O’Connor 404-233-2145, ext. 440, [email protected].
A New Day – A Journey from Grief to Healing
If you have suffered the loss of a loved one, this series, A New Day, A Journey

End of Life Decisions
A young father of 3 children has been in intensive care for two weeks with cancer.
After surgery and chemo therapy, the doctors believe the cancer cannot be cured.
His hospital care is over $100,000. His prognosis for recovery is very bleak. As a
Catholic, what are the options and what does the Church teach? Join us on
Thursdays, July 25, August 1, 8, and 22 as we hear speakers who explore the
teachings of our Catholic faith concerning decisions related to long-term illness,
critical health care, cremation and how to plan for funeral arrangements. All
sessions will be in the 1/3 Kenny Hall with light refreshments at 7 pm and the talk
at 7:15 pm. For information, call Dottie O’Connor, 404-233-2145, ext. 440 or
email her at [email protected].
Funeral Reception Ministry
Opportunities at CTK are still open in the summer! The Funeral Reception
Ministry, a ministry for families who ask to have a reception following their loved
one’s funeral, is in need of persons to text volunteers for food donations. We have
other opportunities: volunteers to cook food or serve at the reception. Recipes are
provided on the CTK website; volunteers are called only once or twice a month.
Come and help us provide hospitality for our families needing our support during
a time of grieving. Email Joanne Love at [email protected] or call her

exactitud mi respuesta a esa misma pregunta? ¿Qué tan dispuesto estoy a

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will

We are a very active parish with 4,800 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share

you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can

May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
