Annual Report - Make-A
2012 Make-A-Wish® Wisconsin Annual Report FROM O OM Wish TO REALITY Dear Make-A-Wish® friend, The 2012 fiscal year was a year to remember. We granted a record–breaking 325 wishes. The result is a significant impact, not only on wish kids and their families, but on donors, medical professionals, volunteers and entire communities. It is amazing to witness the transformation a wish can make in a child. We’ve experienced so many times how a wish can give a new sense of hope, strength and joy to a child who is scared and unsure about his or her future. It’s all because of generous and dedicated supporters like you. This year, more than 500 children throughout Wisconsin will be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition that will qualify them for a wish. It is the goal of Make-A-Wish Wisconsin to grant the wish of every medically–qualified child in the state. As long as the need exists, Make-A-Wish will be there to fulfill these wishes. Our promise to you is that we will grant wishes with integrity and responsible fiscal stewardship, as well as plenty of magic! Thank you. Warmest Wishes, Ellen Stark Chairman of the Board, FY 2013 Patti Gorsky President & CEO On the Cover: Eddie, 9 morquio syndrome “I wish to attend Spring Training to meet the Milwaukee Brewers and Bob Uecker.” BOARD OF DIRECTORS, FY 2012 Executive Board Board Members Anthony Fuerst, Board Chair PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP Ellen Stark, Vice Chair Stark Automotive Group Patrick Hevrdejs, V.P. Through the wish experience, a child feels less isolated and more empowered to take back control of his or her life. Life-threatening medical conditions also impact parents, siblings and other family members on mental and emotional levels. Parents report, and health professionals observe, that wish experiences help repair and strengthen their families through a return to normalcy, and that feelings of hope and optimism replace fear and stress. It’s our number one priority. And it wouldn’t happen without the generous volunteers and donors who share the same priorities we do. Make-A-Wish volunteers and donors report that they feel an increased sense of compassion and desire to help others, and a greater faith in humanity. They become more trusting in others and more optimistic in the future. These changes in volunteers ultimately lead them to make greater long-term commitments to philanthropy, creating a ripple effect of social value.
