• Opening Oct. 13: “Insights to the
Andy Warhol Photographs” will be on
display through Jan. 7 at East Tennessee State
University. The photographs, most of which
have never been exhibited to the public, are
part of the Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy
program, an unprecedented project that
distributed Warhol’s work to select museums
and galleries nationwide with the aim of
providing a broader public access to Warhol’s
work. ETSU is one of only three institutions in
Tennessee to receive the grant and the sole
recipient in East Tennessee. ETSU’s Slocumb
Galleries will showcase Warhol’s Polaroid
portrait photographs, while the Reece Museum
will present black-and-white silver gelatin
prints. While Warhol is best known for his
large-scale paintings, his photographs served
a vital role in his artistic process. Most of his
iconic portraits utilized either the Polaroid or
the photo booth as a basis for the silkscreen
image. [Also see Warhol films, page 23.] 423483-3179, www.etsu.edu
