Blue Notes to Release Recording
During the month of March, the
BLUE NOTES were busy recording a
CD for our JKV residents and others
who may be interested. We chose
Morrisound to do the recording
for they are our neighbors and also
do a great job. We believe we have
selected music from our repertoire
that is popular among JKV Residents!
The program will open with our
original theme written for the band
by former band member, the late
Dr. Vern Whitney. Then, we will
follow with “In the Mood” which
became Glenn Miller’s biggest hit!
Next, we will have “Tuxedo Junction”
which Glenn Miller got from
Erskine Hawkins. We’ll also include
“Thou Swell,” a tune taken from the
Broadway hit show “A Connecticut
Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.”
The first vocal of the album is, I’m
Beginning to See the Light which is
sung by Cynthony. Jimmy Dorsey is
represented by his Rumba Medley
including The Breeze and I, Alma
Pola, and Maria Elena. Lead
trombonist, Joe Offner, then brings
us Tommy Dorsey’s beautiful theme
I’m Getting Sentimental Over You.
Kurt Weill’s Mac the Knife has solos
by Neil Theriault on tenor sax; Mike
Pearson on alto sax; and Joe Offner,
on the trombone. Cynthony returns
to sing the beautiful Evergreen.
English bandleader, Ted Heath’s
beautiful arrangement of Stardust
is well-played by trumpeters Ron
Miller, Dick Bray, and the band.
Harry James’ version of You Made Me
Love You is beautifully played by Ron
Miller and band. Cynthony next returns to sing a melancholy
rendition of Gentle Rain. Dick Bray’s tasty jazz interlude
enhances Cynthony’s lovely low voice on this version. The last
tune is Chicago with solos by Neil Theriault on tenor sax and
Jack Edison on trombone. The closing theme with its allusion
to Good Night Sweetheart concludes the album. We hope you
enjoy it!

THE R.A.C.I. CORNER
“Communications”
According to the dictionary, to communicate is to convey
information, evoke understanding, and relate with others.
Through this column, as well as the Residents’ Association
bulletin board, the Officers of the Association strive to
communicate.
In life, change happens whether we like it or not. We have
little control over the world order; however, we can have
input into life at John Knox. To do so, all we have to do is
communicate our ideas. For example, what we like and/
or appreciate, what we find difficult and/or unpleasant,
and what we would like to see in the future for our JKV
community. Let’s use our energy to express our thoughts in
productive ways such as putting a note in the RA suggestion
box (located on the counter by the mailboxes), speaking up
at a meeting, and conversing with a floor rep, delegate, or
association officer. We will be heard, our input will be taken
seriously, and we will receive a response. Keep in mind we
should be patient, for some wheels turn slowly!
Some of our residents’ questions have already been answered
and are on the RA bulletin board under the header “Q&A,”
let’s not complain to those who can’t help us; it’s not only a
waste of our precious energy, but it also fosters a negative
environment that is depressing and unhealthy.
Let’s be positive, involved, and forward looking! Think about
what we want to see at JKV in 6 months, or 1, 5, or 10 years from
now… Think small and think big! Remember, JKV will change –
that’s life! Let’s have a say in that change… Let’s communicate!

I simply cannot believe June is here. Time flies
when you are having fun, and the Marketing
and Resident Services team has really been
busy in 2014. Paula Borbolla and Georgia
Lindo-Lobban have been busy redecorating
our guest apartments. They are enjoying
updating these apartments with new small
appliances, bed linens, televisions and some
furniture, and we hope your guest(s) enjoy
what we are doing in the apartments. They are
not all completed, but Paula and Georgia are
working very hard on them.
Stop and see some changes
we have made:
•New books were moved to
the large glass cabinet
•Romance books
(Harlequin, etc.) are
now in the large wooden
cabinet overlooking the putting green.
We continue to order only large print books.
Also on hand: Videos, DVDs, and Audio books.
Come and see!

Team Member of the Month
Congratulations, Orlando Ramos!!
Marketing has had 18 Independent Living
contracts and 22 Assisted Living contracts as
of May 9, 2014. We are a little behind budget
in sales, but we have an abundance of new
clientele and interest. In addition, activity from
our advertising venues has picked up. Folks
who have made the commitment to move in are
selling their homes quickly, so we are benefiting
from the positive change in the housing market.
The Las Vegas Casino night was a great success,
and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and had
the opportunity to meet some of our prospects
at the event. The Lunch and Learn in May with
Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Brian Palumbo from
Florida Orthopedic was also very successful,
and we look forward to having Dr. Palumbo
provide services in our Home Health Clinic
this summer. On June 16th, John Schumacher,
American Association of Wartime Veterans
(AAWV), will be presenting a Lunch and Learn
event regarding Aid and Attendance benefits for
Wartime Veterans and Surviving Spouses.
I hope all of the Moms at John Knox had a great
Mother’s Day, and I wish all of the Dads at John
Knox a wonderful Father’s Day.
May you be blessed with a happy and safe
summer. Predictions are it is going to be a hot
one, so remember to get in the pool to stay cool.
Fondly,
Caroline North, Director of Marketing

Tips to Downsize and
“De-stress” Your Home
I will pass on these tips with explanations for each

Now is the time to make arrangements to “gift”
some of your treasures to special people in your life,
including, and especially family, helpful neighbors,
friends, favorite organizations, or church. Pick out a
couple of your favorites from a collection, and pass
on, or sell, or donate the rest. Someone else will
treasure your gift.

Another Joyful Seder
Celebrated at John
Knox Village
For the third year we were
blessed to have Rabbi Ron
Goldberg lead us in a beautiful
celebration of the Seder Meal
on Wednesday, April 23rd.
The Seder is observed in
remembrance of Passover.
Passover celebrates the Jews
liberation from slavery in
Egypt over 3000 years ago.
Pastoral Care Department
facilitated this exciting event
that allowed us all to come
together as one body and
celebrate our shared history as
Jews and Christians. It was an
honor to join and celebrate this
Jewish tradition with people
of varying faith backgrounds.
The Seder was attended by
residents, family and friends.
Eleanor Mitleider said the
prayers beautifully in Hebrew.
Many thanks to the kitchen
staff who did a fantastic job
accommodating the large
crowd. Thanks to all of you
who joined in this celebration.

to remind everyone that the

time to share your concerns,
burdens and praises with other
loving and supportive people
in a confidential environment. This is a time of fellowship and
prayer and is open to everyone. ALL ARE WELCOME! Questions, please call Pastoral
Care at 632-2443 or 632-2396.

Schindler on
60 years of

On Sunday, May 4th our

Church. Msgr. Austin
Mullen and Fr. Tom Morgan
concelebrated mass with
