Volume 1 Jan-Feb 2016 Issue IV New (semi-new) Slate of Officers & Directors for 2016 Mark Parco was re-elected as Club President by acclamation. In fact Mark acclaimed “never more” upon learning of his fate. Members present were excited that Mark’s reign will continue, and quickly demanded he hold his annual Christmas Party. More about that later........... In a surprise move, Ted Clegg, who claims to have served the club in 4 different capacities and well over 9 years has decided to cease his reign as Vice President. At the end of the night and with not another soul interested in the job, Joe Sprowls was Mark Parco, Pres. selected as V.P. for 2016. Joe was a three term Secretary and Three term President. Ted’s service and wisdom will be missed but we’ll drag him out of mothballs every once in a while just for laughs. Joe Sprowls, V.P. Howard Wurster, (pictures on left with Dominick Filippone) was re-elected Treasurer and while we were at it elected him Secretary. Howard (who now wants to be called Alexander Hamilton) was quoted as saying, “your dues are now due.” We expected noting less from Howard A.K.A. Howard. His tight squeezed on our funds and his constant complaining about expenses has kept us afloat financially. Thanks Howard for your continued service to the Blue Knights. (At the January 2016 meeting A.K.A. Howard resigned as Howard Wurster (right) Secretary and T.J. Joubert was appointed Secretary by acclamation) All three of the existing Directors were returned to office and we are grateful that they continue to serve. In particular we want to thank Kurt Gell, who is a founding member of this chapter and has served in many capacities. Kurt Gell Bouncing Bob Cuccio Smiling Tom Jazwa Health & Welfare Report: As of the writing of this newsletter we have three members recently hospitalized. Joe suffered a stroke months ago and is currently undergoing rehabilitation locally near Trinity. Progress is very slow and the family burden certainly needs our prayers. I visited Joe and for certain he recognized me and as I left he told me to “take Joe Ferrantelli care”. It was a very emotional moment for me, as I have always felt a close kinship with Joe We were always looking for that third joe so we could “baptize a jackass.” God Bless Joe and get well. Chapter VP Joe Sprowls attended the Southern Regional Conference (SRC) and is pictured here with International President, DJ Alvarez. The conference was held at Callaway Gardens in Pine Hill, Georgia. More than 400 Blue Knights were in attendance and the conference set the record for the greatest attendance. The Spring conference will be sponsored by an Alabama Chapter and held in Mobile. I chatted with Linda (Joe’s wife) on Facebook and made sure she knew that BKFLAXV was still “with Joe” in our thoughts and prayers. Members Kurt Gell and Bernie Cordaro have both abandoned the two-wheel world for the three-legged kind, both having purchased the Polaris Slingshot Vinny Curreri (Pictured right at an Honor Flight arrival last years) was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in November and remained hospitalized until just before Christmas. Vinny’s experience was as near-fatal as you can have and still survive: several sub-dural hematomas, a spleenectomy, a lacerated pancreas, broken ribs - It was “touch and go” for a while, the pretty nurses would come in the room and Vinny would touch and they would go. In all seriousness, Vinny was back at our January meeting and it was great to have him there. Bernie is looking for a Batman costume (XXL) if available. Kurt has not said either way if he’s willing to wear Robin’s outfit but might opt for Captain America. Club Xmas Party a Great Success Dominick Filippone was hospitalized during December but is home and recovering nicely. With our recent medical problems amongst members a motion was passed at the December meeting to pay the annual dues for hospitalized members and create a permanent reserve fund for such situations in future years, as might be determined by the Board of Officers and Directors from time to time. Once again, for the third year in a row, Club President Mark Parco and his lovely wife Maddie hosted the club’s annual Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanza Party at their home. Mark (our own Man With a Camera - or Bob Cummings depending upon how old you are) has furnished us with proof that a good time was had by all. Plenty of good Spirits and fine Food made the ghosts of Christmases Past & Present gleeful and in abundance. Photo’s on the next page of those in attendance are as caption worthy as any I have ever seen. Christmas Caption Contest As simple as it can be: Photos from the Xmas party are captioned below. Have a better caption? Enter it in the space below or copy the photo and email or give it to the Newsletter publisher for a winning “Caption” to be announced at the March meeting. Winner to receive $5 worth of 50/50 tickets on the club. Why is this man so happy? (See Pic #2) This is what Ted saw when picture # 1 was taken. After Ted filled his plate, Maddie breaks out the crackers. “I know, do you believe he could eat that much” The next thing you know he turns around. And this is how much food was left when I got here. “Yeah, I thought that Mrs. Claus outfit was great” Christmas Caption Contest II Not one single scrap. Rin Tin Tin my ass “OK, rock, paper, scissors! Alright Tim, you deal. "I told you he doesn't know how to use that!" 1. “If you support raising the dues Jerry, I’ll get you a free annual membership” Mark’s older brother.
