Our unique bi-color yarns are extruded
specifically for each of our designs. These
yarns are the foundation for how we
express color.
Each individual strand can be composed
of two contrasting colors. Experimenting
with the proportions of light and dark
within a weaving construction is a
deliberate and exacting process. The
outcome is never a one note color but
more of a complex tone or shade.

■ TerraStrand, the proprietary name of our yarn, is 100% phthalate-free.
■ TerraStrand contains 25% renewable vegetable content.
■ TerraStrand will be used in over 90% of our woven products by 2015.
■ Every 100 yard roll of TerraStrand fabric saves 4.5 gallons of petroleum
and avoids releasing 86.5 pounds of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Chilewich is making a significant environmental development by
replacing the petroleum-based plasticizers in our yarns with
phthalate-free renewable vegetable compounds. Plasticizers have
traditionally been made from petroleum-based compounds that are
used to make PVC yarns soft. No more. We call these innovative new
yarns and the fabrics made from them TerraStrand.

In 2000, Sandy Chilewich introduced her signature woven vinyl fabrics to the market with a collection of placemats
and floor mats. Joe Sultan, her husband and an architect, could see the potential for this material for commercial
applications and joined her in 2001 to launch Plynyl® woven vinyl flooring.
Always focusing on the beauty and utility of the woven fabric, Chilewich has expanded their product offerings to
include textiles for the wall, window and upholstery, thus giving designers freedom to use them in unexpected
combinations and applications.
Made in the USA and distributed globally, Chilewich continues its tireless design and process innovations, including
new green initiatives, such as TerraStrand™, a phthalate-free yarn made from renewable vegetable compounds, and
BioFelt®, a PVC-free floor tile backing system that can be installed without traditional adhesives.

Plynyl® was the name given to our flooring products when we first introduced them in 2001. And W2W is our abbreviated way of saying
Modular 18” (45.7cm) squares for any application where a heavy duty floor covering is required. We make our tile by bonding our signature
“wall to wall”, which is made in rolls by bonding our textiles to a soft, resilient polyurethane cushion. The cushion contains post-consumer
woven textiles to either BioFelt®, an innovative new backing system, or to a vinyl tile backing system. In conjunction with the new TerraStrand™
recycled content.

TerraStrand™ A significant new environmental development for Chilewich is the substitution of petroleum-based plasticizers in Chilewich yarns for phthalate
free, renewable vegetable compounds. Plasticizers have traditionally been made from petroleum-based compounds and are used to make PVC yarns soft. No more.
We call this innovative new yarn and the fabrics made from them, TerraStrand™.

BioFelt® BioFelt® is a PVC-free tile backing system developed by Chilewich that works with all of our signature fabrics. The backing is made from recycled water
bottles, renewable vegetable compounds, as well as post-industrial materials. The total recycled content of the tile (including TerraStrand™ fabric and BioFelt®
backing) exceeds 55% and can contribute to achieving certifications in environmental stewardship programs worldwide.
