President Talks with Chamber
Thomas Isekenegbe, Ph.D., new President of Cumberland
County College talked with Chamber members at the May 18
meeting about the current status of the college and the goals for
the coming years.
He happily and proudly reported that thanks to the leadership
of immediate past president Dr. Ken Ender and the Board, other
administrators, staff and the Board of Freeholders, the college is
doing very well.
“We have a healthy student enrollment, quality academic
programs and even in these tough times, our finances and
facilities are in good condition,” Isekenegbe reported. He added
that the college had its highest enrollment in its history in 2009
with 4,014 students, up 5% from the previous year, including a
dramatic increase in full-time students, up 9.9% from the previous
year.

Chamber Hears from
Bridgeton Candidates
The April meeting of the Chamber held at
Terrigno’s Fairfield Inn brought all the candidates
in Bridgeton’s May 11 election for Mayor and City
Council together at one time.
Mayor James Begley and City Councilman
Nick Salvatore represented the Begley Slate of
Candidates and City Council President Albert Kelly
and council candidate Mike Zapolski represented
the Kelly Slate of candidates. Independent council
candidate Mike Lopez also spoke to the Chamber.
Mayor Begley and his slate highlighted plans
for redevelopment downtown, safety and security
in apartment complexes, better treatment and
services for senior citizens and citywide transit
system.
City Council President Albert Kelly, who is
running for Mayor and his slate of candidates
highlighted their plans to create progress
for Bridgeton by forming and strengthening
partnerships with the people of Bridgeton, area
civic groups, area municipalities, the County and
the State.
On May 11, the voters of Bridgeton, by a
substantial majority, elected Albert Kelly for Mayor
and his entire slate was elected to City Council
including Councilwoman Lugardo, City Councilmen
Bill Spence and Dennis Thompson, Jack Surrency
and Mike Zapolski. The Chamber congratulates
and offers its cooperation and assistance as the
new officials take office in July.
The Chamber also extends its thanks to
outgoing Mayor James Begley and Councilman
Nick Salvatore for their years of service to the city
and their cooperation with the Chamber.

Chamber’s 16th Annual Golf Tournament Is Great Success
Played in Memory of Mike Fralinger and Charles Patitucci
More than 140 golfers and volunteers participated in the Chamber’s 16th annual golf tournament at Centerton
Country Club on May 12. The event raises money to support the chamber’s operations and mission. The Chamber
thanks the many sponsors, especially our main tournament sponsor, P. Austin Insurance Agency / State Farm Insurance,
for their contributions and everyone who helped make the tournament a success.
At the awards dinner, the Chamber took a few moments to memorialize the late Mike Fralinger and Charlie Patitucci for
their service to the Chamber and the community. Some of the proceeds from the putting contest at the tournament were
donated to charities of the family’s choice.
Winners in A division were Farm Credit East, Radio Shack and P. Austin Insurance Agency. Winners in B division
were Robert Patitucci, MD, Dominion Title Services and Gregory Facemyer, CPA. The longest drive prize went to
Jacqueline Bray, straightest drive to Joe Blandino and closest to the pin prize went to John Trainer, Evan Fogg, Doug Carll
and Ted Propert.
Chamber members, golfers, volunteers, sponsors and members of the Fralinger and Patitucci families enjoy the 16th annual golf tournament.

Century Savings Bank Hosts Chamber Event
At New Cornwell Drive Office in Upper Deerfield
Century Savings Bank (CSB) celebrated the grand opening of their new state of the art branch, located
at 53 Cornwell Drive in the Carlls Corner section of Upper Deerfield Township, with a special ribbon cutting
ceremony. Century Savings Bank President and CEO, David Hemple; Chairman of the Board of Directors,
Alan Woodruff; Mayor of Upper Deerfield Township, James Crilley; and other members of the CSB executive
staff participated in the ceremonial opening of the 6900-square-foot branch which is open seven days a
week.
“We are proud to have a location where we can offer big-bank services and small-town, individual
attention,” said Hemple. “This branch has been an incredible growth opportunity for us and reinforces our
commitment to superior community banking in the Bridgeton area.”
On May 26, Upper Deerfield office manager Carol Musso and staff welcomed Chamber members and
guests to a “Business After Business” reception at the new office where many people got a chance to talk
with bank officials and see the new office.
“The Chamber offers its thanks and congratulations to Carol, Dave and everyone at Century Savings
Bank for showing confidence in the people and businesses of the area by making this investment in the
area,” commented Karen Hepner, Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce.

New Festival – “Cohansey RiverFest” To Make Debut on August 28
Bridgeton Main Street Association and Chamber to Team Up to Present Crab and Beer Garden
With the impetus of the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission, several area civic, educational, cultural and environmental organizations are
working together to create a new special event named the Cohansey RiverFest. The festival will include multiple events and activities spread throughout towns
located along the Cohansey including Bridgeton, Fairfield, Greenwich, Hopewell and Upper Deerfield.
“Celebrate, discover, connect and protect” is the theme for the celebration. Events will be held from Sunset Lake where three municipalities share borders on
the lake that is part of the Cohansey River, in Bridgeton’s City Park, including the Cohanzick Zoo and the raceway, in downtown Bridgeton at the Bridgeton Library,
Gallery 50 Gallery, the riverfront on the Cohansey River, at Eagle Point in Fairfield Township, Dutch Neck Village in Hopewell and in Greenwich.
Food, boating, environmental education, children’s fun, art and crafts exhibits, fishing and sporting events, movies, dancing, concerts, tours and shopping will
highlight the event as it strives to bring thousands of area residents and visitors together with the Cohansey River as its centerpiece.
The Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce and Bridgeton Main Street Association will host a Crab and Beer Garden featuring crabs made by the Marino family
and live musical entertainment on the riverfront in downtown Bridgeton.
Look for details on the RiverFest in the coming weeks. See www.baccnj.com and www.cohanseyriverfest.org for more information.

at a luncheon meeting at Ramada Inn in Vineland
on April 29 where presentations were made by
Freeholder Director Louis Magazzu and Third District
Assemblyman John Burzichelli regarding the state of
the County and the State.
Freeholder Director Magazzu explained the detailed,

He said the Freeholder Board recognizes the value of
shared services to help the county and the local governments save money and maintain stable or lower tax
rates. He pointed to the need for consolidation of school districts as a key area to save taxpayers money.
Assemblyman John Burzichelli, who serves as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and serves on the Budget
Committee, spoke to the chamber members and guests about the state of the State budget and government.
He said tough choices that needed to be made for many years now must be made. He said it is an
opportunity to change the shape and direction of state government for years to come.
