From Our Principal
As we approach summer vacation, it seems fitting for us to reflect back on the year in gratitude for all of the amazing blessings our Lord has bestowed upon our community during the
2012-2013 school year. One of the most incredible gifts was the success of our school's first
annual giving campaign. More than 80% of our families participated, and the Annual Appeal
raised more than $280,000 for technology and professional development.
Your generosity clearly communicates how much you believe in our school and how invested
you are in your children's education. Your support of the school through the Annual Appeal
has significantly impacted the amount of learning going on in our classrooms.
This report provides details of how Annual Appeal dollars were spent to improve the quality of
education at Our Lady of Mercy. Our focus groups, interviews and surveys resulted in the decision to dedicate our funds to areas that would affect student learning in the classroom. The
technology and professional development provided by your gifts has increased student learning this year and will continue to do so for years to come.

My students have loved using the iPads. We researched the United States using them. We also enjoyed using the
Promethean Board. My students love working math problems, and I also love showing the workbook pages on it,
so the students can follow and understand their work better. Thank you so much for this wonderful technology
that has enhanced my teaching and the students’ learning!

I love having the iPads available! They are so much easier to use than the computers, so I don't have to feel overwhelmed trying to use them in the classroom. Having an iPad cart available keeps me thinking about new ways to
modernize my curriculum and integrate technology into it. I vote we have one for every hall!

This year in our Spanish class we were able to integrate our technology with our curriculum. The students created
an E-Book about a Spanish-speaking country and their culture after doing the research using the iPads and apps.
The students had so much fun learning and presenting their research E-Book to the class. Not to mention, it was a
paperless project where no supplies were needed! What an incredible opportunity to maximize their learning experience through the use of engaging technology.
