Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I hope you and your children enjoyed the holidays and the extra time together. The
students all seemed excited to be back on Tuesday, although, I noted that on Wednesday many of us were
sleepy and still adjusting to the return to early mornings!
With the New Year comes the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Middle school students have new electives,
and I am teaching my vocabulary development class this quarter. It is fun for me to be in the classroom
among the students and to get to interact with the MS faculty on a daily basis, even if it is only for one
period. Of course preschool and lower school students are beginning fun new units on a variety of topics
as well. I always find that this winter season is a particularly productive and “meaty” time of the year.
Next week we begin our boys’ basketball season. Allow me to make my regular reminder about the
importance of good sportsmanship not only from our students but from our parents. As I tell the
students, we want to be good guests at other schools and hosts at home. We cheer for our own students
and not against others. And, I know this is difficult, we recognize that dealing with referees is simply part
of the game. There will be times when we disagree, perhaps vehemently, with a call; however, it rarely
serves our players well and certainly does not speak well for our school when we are abusive of the
referees. Thank you in advance for helping our students learn how to be good sports and good fans!
As I said in yesterday’s message, enrollment contracts for next year will come out in a separate email today.

Today we celebrated our Epiphany Eucharist and welcomed the first grade to their first school Eucharist.
We were delighted to have Cathedral Sub-Dean Fr. Thomas Nsbuga as our celebrant and Mthr. Rowena
White as preacher. Some of you may have noticed that Chaplain Kane was not at the Eucharist today; that
is because she was invited to attend the annual conference of the North American Academy of Liturgy,
where she participated in workshops and discussions about worship for children. We are so proud that she
was invited to attend and know that our future worship will be enriched through her experiences at the
conference.
The Division Heads and I have been working on the calendar for next year. Although it has not been
finalized, I anticipate a first day of classes on August 17. We will publish a tentative calendar later in the
month.
