“LIVE THE ANIMO THROUGH FAITH, SERVICE AND COMMUNION”
TUESDAY - February 2, 2016
Lasallian Core Value: COMMUNION
Graduate Attribute: Proud Filipinos
De La Salle saw that participation in God’s plan of salvation happened not by withdrawing from the
world and our particular circumstance, but precisely by embracing the temporal world and meeting
the challenges of human life. The Founder remained a prayerful man, yet he too was keenly aware
of the human situation that people of his day faced.
Like De La Salle, we are encouraged to listen to God’s challenge to our educational ministry in the hopes and struggles of the
people of our particular milieu. The pride we have in our Filipino identity is indicative of our commitment to an education that
is relevant and responsive to the needs of the Filipino people in this present time.
Reading:
Luke 2:22-31
And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present
him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord")
and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons." Now
there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see
death before he had seen the Lord Christ. And inspired by the Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought
in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and
said, "Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation which you
have prepared in the presence of all peoples.
Reflection:
Do you know the favor of the Lord? After Jesus' birth, Mary fulfills the Jewish right of purification after childbirth. Since she
could not afford the customary offering of a lamb, she gives instead two pigeons as an offering of the poor. This rite, along
with circumcision and the redemption of the first-born point to the fact that children are gifts from God. Jesus was born in
an ordinary home where there were no luxuries. Like all godly parents, Mary and Joseph raised their son in the fear and
wisdom of God. He, in turn, was obedient to them and grew in wisdom and grace. The Lord's favor is with those who listen
to his word with trust and obedience. Do you know the joy of submission to God? And do you seek to pass on the faith and
to help the young grow in wisdom and maturity?
Prayer:
"Lord Jesus, you are my hope and my life. May I never cease to place all my trust in you. Fill me with the joy and strength of
the Holy Spirit that I may boldly point others to your saving presence and words of eternal life."

What types of therapy and intervention can help kids with dyslexia?
THE EIP DIG
LASALLIAN WORDHOARD
(AXIOMS ABOUT IDIOMS)
-From CENTRO-EIP
Kids with dyslexia can benefit from
speech therapy to work on what’s called
“phonemic awareness.” Phonemic awareness
is the ability to hear and work with the sounds
of letters and letter combinations.
ABLE-BODIED – adj. –
service or activity
capable
of
physical
We need more able-bodied people to
help out in the activity.
A speech therapist may also work on phonics (the relationship
between letters and the sounds they make) and language skills.
In some cases, a specially trained reading specialist may do this
type of therapy instead of a speech therapist.

You may also want to explore educational therapy. This type of
therapy helps kids develop strategies for working around their
issues and dealing with frustration.
From the English Department
If your child has ADHD in addition to dyslexia, therapies for
ADHD issues could be a great help. These kinds of therapies
could reduce some of your child’s anxiety about school and
make it easier for her to perform in class. If dyslexia takes a toll
on your child’s self-esteem or causes anxiety or stress, psychological counseling could also help her perform better in school.

What educational strategies can help kids with dyslexia?
“Mayroon rin namang lalapitan kang umiiyak
Bilang guro’y agad ka namang mahahabag
Ituturing mong parang iyong anak
Kahit mismong sarili moy’ dalaga at binata pa
namang ganap”
There are lots of ways to help kids with dyslexia succeed in the
classroom and at home. Ask your child’s teachers about accommodations that could work.
It’s important to talk to your child’s teachers about what instructional strategies the school uses. Most kids with dyslexia need
to be taught in multi-sensory ways that connect what they see,
hear and feel. (Orton–Gillingham is a common multisensory
approach.) For example, some teachers use letter tiles or sandpaper letters to help kids build words and feel the shape of the
letters and words. Some programs also focus on teaching different arm movements to make commonly confused letters, such
as p, b and d.

What else can help kids with dyslexia?
You can also support your child at home. You might try out
audiobooks or dictation software. And take a look at Tech Finder
for apps and games that can make reading easier.

FEBRUARY 8, 2016
The Chinese New Year, also called Spring Festival, is the most
important traditional, social, and economic festival in China. It is
celebrated in varied ways in countries and territories with
significant Chinese populations, including the Philippines.
Popular ways to celebrate the occasion include putting up Spring
Festival couplets, hanging lantern decorations, lighting firecrackers,
holding family reunions, eating tikoy and pansit, dressing up in red
garments, watching dragon or lion dances, and giving of hongbao.
Each new year is marked by the characteristics of one of the 12
zodiacal animals; for 2016 it is the Year of the Monkey.
The greeting Xīnnián Kuàilè means “Happy New Year.”
However, people traditionally greet one another Gōng Xǐ Fā Cái
which means “Good wishes and be prosperous!“ – more popularly
known in its Cantonese translation, Kung Hei Fat Choi.
新年 快乐。 恭喜发财 。
