Sometimes we may wonder if enduring ridicule and scorn are what we really signed up for when we received the sacraments of initiation. Would we not rather sneak through life as painlessly as possible? Good stewards take their faith seriously and find comfort in the closing words of today’s Gospel: “You will be hated by all because of my name but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.” Let us make it part of our daily prayer routine to ask the Holy Spirit for the courage to act in Jesus’ name no matter the consequences. THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME EVENTS IN THE PARISH/ EVENTOS EN LA PARROQUIA RELIGIOUS EDUCATION/ EDUCACION RELIGIOSA Mass Intentions–2014 Mass Book Open—Starting Monday, November 18 Stay up-to-date with the latest—SWYM The celebration of the Eucharist is the highest form of worship in the Catholic Church because we unite ourselves with Christ's sacrifice on the cross in worship of his Father. The faithful may request Mass(es) to be celebrated for a specific intention, for the living or the dead. To request a Mass Intention at Saint William during the 2014 year, please visit the Saint William church office. Due to the size of our parish, Mass Intentions are limited to 3 per family per year, scheduled on non-consecutive times or dates. Mass Intentions not at Saint William—Additionally, many of our parishioners have found that the Seraphic Mass Association - Capuchin Mission is an excellent place to request multiple Mass intentions. The Seraphic Mass Association - Capuchin Mission Office can schedule Mass intention requests with Capuchin Franciscan Friars throughout the world. To request Mass Intentions through the Seraphic Mass Association, call 1-877-737-9050 (toll free) or visit the Seraphic Mass Association - Capuchin Mission website at http:// www.seraphicmass.org/cards_info.asp About the Capuchin Mission - For nearly 500 years, Capuchin Franciscan Friars have been called to mission. The Friars have served in foreign lands since the Order was started in 1528. Preaching on almost every continent of the globe, the Capuchins are daily witnesses to the sharing of God’s Word and His love, even to the ends of the earth. Your offering also serves as a means of support for their life and ministry. This Sunday’s topic of discussion is “Grace”! Next week’s topic will be “Sacraments 101”. Confirmation Parents: Don’t miss the Parent Meeting on Wednesday, November 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the parish hall. EVENTS IN THE PARISH/ EVENTOS EN LA PARROQUIA Second Collection—Typhoon Recovery in the Philippines—November 24 In the aftermath of the devastation of the recent typhoon in the Philippines, Saint William will be taking up a special second collection next weekend, November 24, to assist those who have been affected. We are blessed in our parish to have many families from the Philippines and many have family members who have been affected by this tragedy. Also, our diocese is blessed with the presence of a number of priests working here who are from the Philippines. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Volunteer to help victims of the Halloween Flooding in Central Texas Bishop Joe S. Vásquez is asking Central Texas Catholics, especially service organizations, to volunteer to assist victims of the Halloween flood in Central Texas. “As Catholics, we need to reach out and assist those in our community whose lives have been disrupted by this natural disaster. Please consider volunteering your time to help our brothers and sisters. I also ask you to join me in prayer for all those affected by the flooding,” said Bishop Joe S. Vásquez. “This is a perfect service opportunity and a chance to do corporal works of mercy, by service groups, youth groups, families, Knights of Columbus, campus ministries, and individuals. I invite everyone to help.” Tasks include cleaning mud, furniture, carpeting and personal items out of homes. Sheetrock and other construction materials need to be removed and placed on the curb for city pick-up. Volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for the work, including closed-toe shoes. Please bring gloves, flat shovels and utility knives. Minimum age is 12 (with an adult) or 18. Signups are being coordinated through this website: http://www.handsoncentraltexas.org/ apex/HOC__Volunteer_Opportunity_Details_Page?id=a0CA000000UJn27MAD Individuals or group leaders will have to register and create a login to use the website. After that, select a date and then an individual or entire team can be signed up at once. Open dates range from now through December 22. It is recommended that, if possible, groups from parishes wear shirts that identify them as being part of a Catholic organization. THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Saint Vincent’s Corner The Gospel predicts end times; our challenge though is to live faithfully now. St. Vincent often asked this simple question: “What would Jesus Christ do, if he were in my place now? Ask yourself “What would Jesus Christ do?” and then put your donations in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul food box so that those who are suffering will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving. Words of Life "It is impossible to further the common good without acknowledging and defending the right to life, upon which all the other inalienable rights of individuals are founded and from which they develop. A society lacks solid foundations when, on the one hand, it asserts values such as the dignity of the person, justice and peace, but then, on the other hand, radically acts to the contrary by allowing or tolerating a variety of ways in which human life is devalued and violated, especially where it is weak or marginalized. Only respect for life can be the foundation and guarantee of the most precious and essential goods of society, such as democracy and peace." ~ Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae Frequent Numbers/ Numeros Frequentes PASTORAL CARE Liturgy Divorce & Beyond Bereavement Ministry Hospital Visit (English) Hospital Visit (Español) Homebound (English) Homebound (Spanish) Nursing Home Ministry Debbie George Debbie George Debbie George Mary DiBonito Martha Estrada Mary Cavett Martha Estrada Azucena Overman 600-8158 600-8158 600-8158 934-3235 417-8722 388-0016 417-8722 627-6423 SPIRITUAL LIFE Eucharist Adoration Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Grace Estatua Peregrina Praise & Worship Prayer Line Parish Bible Study Legion of Mary Karina Hernandez Debbie Davis Rosie Russi Les & Gabriele Miller Joan Price Mark Hlas Lynda Villasana 750-4676 417-9010 828-4772 255-5058 244-0814 218-8539 269-0023 OUTREACH SERVICE Gabriel Project/ Project Rachel Drive a Senior in the Community Pro-Life Committee English-as-a-Second Language Sacred Heart Community Clinic Toll Free Hotline Jann Gorman Ann Bierschenk Doris Olivo Finley Liz Burton-Garcia (877) 932-2732 255-5028 797-5411 913-9279 716-3929 MINISTERIOS HISPANOS Ministerios Hispanos Apostoles Divina Misericordia Encuentro Matrimonial Grupo de Oración—Agua Viva Amigos en Cristo—Grupo Juvenil Sociedad de las Guadalupanas Lectores Legión de Mariá Legión de Mariá Grupo Juvenil Quinceañeras Movimiento Familiar Cristiano Santa Comunión Deacon Concho Castillo Magdalena Fernandez Ramon y Mildred Bodon Ricardo Gonzalez Jamie Ruiz Becky Diaz Elizabeth Araujo Rosie Russi Jose Luis Guerrero Dora Snell Juan y Leticia Serrano Lucy Montealvo 255-4473 939-8415 254-592-2009 745-1278 578-5052 705-1499 388-6013 828-4772 554 4746 238-1083 630 6084 567-8961 ORGANIZATIONS African-American Council Ada Muoneke 636-9359 American Heritage Girls Debbie Gonzalez 310-8724 Asian Council Indra D’Mello 218-4097 Catholic Daughters Audrey Morton 590-1113 Junior Catholic Daughters Annette Sprawls 497-2878 Christ Child Society Ofelia Melendez 786-4705 K.J.T. So if it is English this week, it will be in Spanish the next and vice versa. Each Sunday, following the homily, we stand and profess our Catholic faith in the Creed. We profess what we believe as a single individual person and also united with millions of others around the globe. It is rather awesome to realize that so many are saying the very same words as we stand and profess our faith. How do you understand the meaning of the words spoken in the Creed? In what ways do you appreciate that we pray in solidarity with millions of other Christians? Please stay tuned for the complete Mass schedule in Advent. PRO-LIFE LINE/ LINEA PRO-VIDA CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING Baby Banks Thank you to all who participated in the 'Baby Bank" project for the Respect Life month of October. Your generosity in support of God's precious gift of life is a blessing to many. You may still return your Baby Bank to the parish office if you were not able to bring it to Mass. Thank You! The liturgical year draws to a close with reminders that being a disciple of Jesus is not easy. Faithfulness to Christ will bring opposition and ridicule. We may stand up against abortion, or torture or the death penalty. We may speak out for immigrants, refugees and the poor. These positions might cause others to reject us. We are privileged to be disciples – brothers and sisters of Jesus, but like his road, ours will involve the cross.
