ecently Father James Martin,
wrote a book called Between
Heaven and Mirth, focusing on
why joy, humor, and laughter are so
important in what we call the “spiritual
life.” He is not the first notice this. Years
before, the wonderful poet Phyllis McGinley
wrote Saint Watching with a chapter on
“Holy Wit,” and observed that in many books about the
saints what one misses most of all is the laughter. While
today’s feast is not a call to join in the chorus of
“Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” it is a reminder that the Word of
God itself imagines the life to come as one in which there
will be great joy and peace and happiness—and singing
and eating and, might we even add, dancing. But why
wait? We are God’s children now, as John reminds us,
destined to see God as God is. And if that is not cause for
delight and joy even now, what is? For a while the opening
word of beatitudes was translated as “Happy…” Most
translations have gone back to “Blessed…” There is really
no contradiction.
What reason will you find today to join in the happy
blessedness of the saint?

initiative called With All Your Heart with a
complementary Spanish model called
Con Todo Nuestro Corazón. This program
inspires Catholics to live their faith
enthusiastically as disciples of Jesus in a
closely connected and missionary parish
community. Together, we will follow four
seasons known as Heart to Pray, Heart to
Serve, Heart to Share and Heart to Witness.

It’s “Thanksgiving Food Drive” time again! The bags will be
distributed on November 7th & 8th and will be collected on
November 14th & 15th. The items listed on the bags will help
feed over 500 families this Thanksgiving. We thank all of our
parishioners for your generous support.

DOCUMENTARY
DOCUMENTAL:
“LAS RELIGIONES DEL MUNDO”
The “Religions of the World” DVD series will meet
on Saturday, November 7th and present a
“double-header” (two DVDs) on Protestant
Christianity and Orthodox Christianity, which
includes Roman Catholicism.
We will begin at 9:00am and conclude at
12:30pm for this special session.
We will meet on Saturday, November 14th at our
regular time 9:00am – 11:00am to present the
DVD “Islam”.
The series is presented in the Faith Formation Building,
Room #4. Please join us!

If you decide to enter into full communion with the Catholic
Church, we can assist you.
There is no pressure to become a Roman Catholic
Christian!
Sacramental Preparation for baptized Catholics
If you are a baptized Roman Catholic, 18 years and older
AND out of high school, you may prepare for the
Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Gatherings in English will begin Monday, November 2nd at
7:00pm in the Faith Formation Building, Room #4.
Dates for gatherings in Spanish will be announced soon.

SUMMER MISSION TRIP 2016
Ages: For High Schoolers
Where: Charleston, SC
When: June 14 - 19, 2016
What type of work: The actual mission work is assigned to us as the trip gets
closer but usually is painting, helping at an elderly living facility, food pantry, or
something like that. More details as the date gets closer.
Cost:$250 (the actual cost in much higher but we are able to charge this price
because of the fundraising we'll be doing as well as other means).
Program: Alive in You (find out more at www.aliveinyou.com)
If you (or your teen) have ever considered going on a Mission trip, I highly
recommend coming to check out more information. Mission trips can be
lifetime memories and can have a huge impact on teens growing in their faith.
