Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) issued 442 citations
and warnings for violation of Nebraska’s seat belt law during the
national “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign (May 23 –June 5)
encompassing the heavily traveled Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Enforcement efforts designed to reduce the potential for serious injury and fatality crashes through voluntary compliance with all traffic
safety laws to include seat belt usage were paid for thanks in part to
a $28,390 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. In
addition to the 442 seat belt citations and warnings, troopers issued
54 child restraint citations and warnings, arrested 75 motorists for
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and wrote 5,288 speeding citations
and warnings. Roadway assistance was also provided to 607 travelers during the special enforcement period.
AIR SHOW IN COZAD
This weekend, Friday and Saturday, is the Courtesy of the Red,
White and Blue Air show at the Cozad Municipal Airport. This two
day event is jam packed with activities for kids and exhibits and
venders. Friday things are kicked off with Tandem sky diving jumps,
aircrafts will be showing up, and free airplane rides for kids 5-17.
Entertainment will be from Check Joe and Peter, they are a band
and stand up comedy group that will be playing during the dinner.
Public can attend the dinner for $30 per seat. Saturday morning
gates will open to the general public. There will be 40 plus venders
and exhibiters, aircrafts parked for people to look at, rock climbing
and bounce houses. A pancake breakfast is given as well as other
venders selling food. The public can park in the open field next to
the West Side Apartments or at the Teneco building. At both places
a shuttle will be taking people to the airport. On Saturday the air
show will start at 1 p.m. and will be two and a half hours full of performances from a P51 mustang, the Rocky Mountain Renegades from
Colorado with 7 RV8’s performing aerobatics. B25’s and the Army
National Guard will also be at the show. Along with the air show will
be a performance from Justin Cane.
LAWMAKERS CRITICIZE TRUMP
HOME OF BISON
SPORTS FOR
38 YEARS!
Capitol Hill lawmakers from Nebraska and Iowa on Tuesday criticized Donald Trump’s comments about the Mexican heritage of an
American-born judge. But few were willing to go as far as House
Speaker Paul Ryan in denouncing the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Claiming a person can’t do their job because of
their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist comment,”
Ryan said Tuesday. “I think that should be absolutely disavowed. It’s
absolutely unacceptable.” Trump said his comments were being
“misconstrued” but did not back down or apologize for saying repeatedly that U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel could not preside
fairly over a case involving Trump because of his Mexican heritage.
“I do not feel that one’s heritage makes them incapable of being
impartial, but, based on the rulings that I have received in the Trump
University civil case, I feel justified in questioning whether I am receiving a fair trial,” Trump said in a statement.

With Kansas City in the midst of a five-game losing streak, tensions
boiled over in the Orioles' 9-1 win over the Royals on Tuesday night
when Kansas City righty Yordano Ventura plunked Manny Machado
with a 99-mph fastball. The benches cleared and the bullpens emptied
as Machado charged the mound, overshadowing another strong offensive night for Baltimore at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. "I don't
regret anything," Machado said. "It's part of the game. Reactions fly.
When somebody's throwing 99 at you, it's going to hurt. You can ruin
someone's career. You don't think in that situation. You just react to
it." Ventura said he doesn't think he should be suspended. "I don't
think that should be in order," Ventura said through interpreter Pedro
Grifol. "My plan was to pitch inside and one got away. And things
happened, and benches cleared. The Orioles scored four runs in the
first and held a 5-1 advantage during the fracas before taking a commanding lead when play finally resumed. Mark Trumbo and Chris
Davis, the first two batters after the ejections, went back-to-back as
part of a four-homer night for the Orioles, who have seven long balls
in the series. The final game of the series is tonight. Pregame coverage on 1300 KBRL-AM starts at 5:30 p.m.
