Thanks to loyal donors like you, this year over 360 children from Pre K 3 to 8 th grade have
received scholarship assistance so that they can get a quality education at St. Pius V and
Holy Rosary Schools.
Safety first! Since Sheriff Rutherford and his team of security experts walked both of our
campuses to evaluate our security needs, the Guardian Board and I have been focused on
implementing their plan for “Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.” Many
important security upgrades have already been implemented and the rest will be completed
by next month. Thank you to those who have contributed to this project for providing a safe
& secure environment for our students and staff.
Please join us for our 10th Annual “Decade of Dreams” Golf and Tennis Classic, March 31st at Timuquana

JUMP! Holy Rosary Launches the Jacksonville Urban Music Project
Inspired by the vision of El Sistema, the founding members of JUMP!, the
Jacksonville Urban Music Project, chose Holy Rosary as the site of their
new string program. After attending workshops at Villanova University
given by the Play On Philly! staff from Philadelphia and at Duke University
where they were further inspired by Durham, North Carolina’s KidZNotes,
Peggy Toussant and Patrice Evans were determined to found a similar
program in Jacksonville.
Violinist Patty Evans introduces
first-grader Lyriq Walker to the violin
as Jayden Johnson looks on.
Students in the first and fourth grades have the opportunity to become
members of the inaugural class.
The program includes weekly
training in classical, orchestral
music, lessons in music theory
and literacy, and opportunities
to perform in the community.
Improvements Around St. Pius
Father Tom Cody has been busy using his carpentry skills at St. Pius School.
We are so grateful for bookcases for the library,
storeroom shelving, science room shelving, podiums
for classrooms, a podium for the church, and a really
classy (don’t laugh) sneeze guard which was required
for our health permit for the lunch serving line.
Father’s next project is revamping our trophy cases,
which is timely, as our boys’ basketball team were the

thanks, Father Tom.
St. Pius School is now proudly sponsoring Holy Rosary School in the National School
Lunch Program. Their lunch program went from serving 50 some lunches a day to
over 150.

School Leadership Changes
Sister Elise Kennedy has
announced that at the end
of this school year she will
retire as principal of St.
Pius V, a position she has
held for 27 years. She will
pursue another ministry at
that time. Enough cannot
be said about what Sister
Elise has meant to the St.
Pius community during
her 37 years of dedicated service at St. Pius.
Sister Dianne Rumschlag has been appointed as
Executive Director of Schools for the Guardian Catholic
Schools, reporting to the Guardian Board, effective
immediately. Sister Dianne’s 18 years of ministry at
Holy Rosary and her PhD in Educational Administration
position her well to assume this new leadership role.
She will retain her responsibilities as principal of Holy
Rosary School.
Jennifer Churchill has been appointed to the new
position of Assistant Principal at
Holy Rosary. Jennifer has taught
first and fourth graders at Holy
Rosary for eight years; she has a
Master's degree in Education and
majored in Educational Leadership. A search has already begun
for Sister Elise’s replacement.
The new principal at St. Pius will
also report to Sister Dianne.

Introducing Jennifer Churchill
Thank You to Nancy & Gary Chartrand!
Nancy & Gary Chartrand generously decided to donate to the Guardian
all proceeds from the November 5th, 2013 screening of Messenger of
the Truth, a powerful documentary they produced about the life and
death of Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko. The event was a huge success, raising
over $179,000 for student scholarships.
To show our appreciation, the Guardian Board and students presented
them with an original piece of artwork by student Chanthony Boyd.
Thanks to the Guardian, Chanthony has had the opportunity to attend
field trips and summer camp at The Cummer Art Museum and explore
his interest in the arts. “Art is very important to me,” said Chanthony,
“It allows me to express my feelings and share my thoughts.” The piece
given to the Chartrands was his “expression of God’s guidance” in our
daily lives.
