OUR
MISSION
Our mission is to serve as a community resource that
provides childcare, educational and developmental
intervention, and family support services. We offer
child-focused, family-centered programs that are
affordable, accessible and of the highest quality. The
agency staff and associated professionals work
in partnership with families and others in the
community to build on each child's unique strengths,
ensuring positive growth and development.
THANK YOU!
Together we are changing lives! With your support, our programs are better able to help families achieve
important milestones. This represents a tremendous investment in our collective futures for communities
across our service area. We are grateful and inspired by each gift that we received this past year.
While our support enabled us to be responsive to meet many of the needs and challenges of the 3,000+
children and their families that we partner with, our work is far from done. There are many families still
in need of services or on wait lists. There are still so many great opportunities for innovations yet to be
developed to help us to achieve more.
This past year, with support from the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation, we completed an audit
of our technology infrastructure and, in turn, developed a three-year plan to gain greater efficiencies and
capacities across our workforce.
A grant from Cape Cod Healthcare Community Benefits funded a full-time mental health consultant to
support our preschool youngsters and their families who are confronted with traumas that could disrupt
their futures without supportive intervention.
Support for our School Age Program has meant an increase in staff training and learning opportunities to
benefit the 145+ youngsters enrolled in our three centers.
As the beneficiary of some very special events, a few long-term “wish list” items have become realities.
Many thanks to Botello Lumber Company and EmBargo for making this so!
This past fall, we proudly celebrated Mary Pat Messmer, CEO, in her retirement and for her nineteen
years of service. The agency is laying the groundwork as we prepare to welcome new leadership and nearly
a half-century of impactful work on behalf of the working families.
Together, we play a vital role in the social safety net that has helped launch thousands of youngsters on a
pathway to become happy, thriving and caring members of our classrooms and in the greater community.
Each child’s success, like each gift we receive, raises us all a little higher toward serving our mission.

Volunteer: Barnstable High School Key Club
For the past two years, the Barnstable High School’s Key Club has volunteered with Cape Cod Child Development’s Hyannis
School Age Program. The Club provides homework support, organizes various games, activities and craft projects and has surely
enriched the lives of the 48 youngsters enrolled in our School Age program. In addition to sharing their skills and time, the
group has led two fundraising initiatives helping out children and other local families with a food and toy drive.
We appreciate the spirit of giving this club has generated on behalf of the Hyannis School Age Program. Special thanks to Kathryn
Lawler, President of the Key Club for the past two years, for her leadership. Their visits brighten the days for the students and staff
alike. We applaud the service and commitment of the Barnstable High School Key Club and their work with the Hyannis School Age Program.
Business: Ben & Jerry’s, Hyannis: Mike Lyons and Katie Nikas
For over 25 years, Mike Lyons and his intrepid staff have served cones and sundaes on Main Street in Hyannis. They have done so
with a sense of fun and to be good neighbors. On “free cone day” they hold an extra-special place in their hearts and line for our
preschoolers. They have been known to have their order ready and waiting for them.
This past year, they decided to host their 1st charity fundraiser and CCCD was earmarked as their first BENeficiary. “As a core
part of Ben & Jerry’s philosophy, we believe that business has a responsibility to give back to the community,” stated Michael
Lyons, the 27 year owner of the Ben & Jerry’s franchise in Hyannis. “It’s all the better if we can make it fun while raising funds and
awareness for a great organization in the process; it’s a fun-fund raiser!”
We were honored to have been chosen and then overwhelmed with their effort and spirit to make the day a good one for everyone involved. In the
words of Mr. Rogers, “We are ALL neighbors.” This holds especially true for partnerships in the business community like our good neighbors at Ben
& Jerry’s Ice Cream on Main Street.
Community: Sean Gonsalves
In 1996, Sean signed a contract with Universal Press Syndicate and became one of the youngest nationally syndicated columnists
in the country at the time. The column was picked up by 22 newspapers, including the Oakland Tribune, Kansas City Star and
Seattle Post-Intelligencer. His work has also appeared in the Boston Globe, USA Today, the Washington Post and the International Herald-Tribune.
Yet, even while writing a nationally-syndicated column, back home on Cape Cod Sean reported on everything from breaking news,
municipal government, presidential vacations on Martha’s Vineyard, and hundreds of other stories. Through the years he has generated a number of op-ed pieces on issues relating to Early Childhood Education, The Joys of Fatherhood, Head Start Sequestration and chronicling
the challenges and plight of local workforce families wanting the best for their children.
Sean’s work as a reporter and columnist has garnered numerous awards over the years including an honorary declaration by the Massachusetts state
legislature that commemorated his column as a voice for the voiceless. In June of this year, Mr. Gonsalves joined Regan Communications to help
others better communicate with an often cynical and skeptical public. While we miss his column and voice, we are so grateful for his work through
the years.
Legislative: Representative David Vieira
Representative Vieira is the current member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 3rd Barnstable district. Vieira
is also a Falmouth town meeting member and has been Moderator of that body since 1998. Vieira was born in Teaticket, Massachusetts. He graduated from Falmouth High School and then studied at American University. He later earned an MPA degree
from Suffolk University.
In recent years he has provided both a strong voice and vote in support relative to Early Childhood initiatives and legislation.
