It has been an exciting year for health care in Ulster County, with many
changes that will enhance The Kingston Hospital’s service delivery to our
community. Despite all of the financial turmoil and uncertainty, we are
pleased to report that 2008 was a banner year for our Foundation, with our
overall fund raising up 16% over 2007! In addition to our very successful Tulip
Ball, Golf Tournament and Fall Fashion Show, direct philanthropic support
increased as well.

Benedictine Hospital and The Kingston Hospital have longstanding traditions of providing
quality health care to Ulster County and surrounding communities. Over the past two years the
Hospitals’ Boards have worked toward a historic collaboration that will provide a new model of
community health care and vastly improve patient services in Ulster County. The vision of these
two institutions has finally come to fruition through the formation of HealthAlliance.
With the establishment of HealthAlliance, The Kingston Hospital and Benedictine Hospital are
approaching a historic milestone and are poised to provide even higher levels of care. The
realignment is an opportunity for the hospitals to evolve, setting the stage for improving the
quality of service and developing Centers of Excellence to serve the people of the surrounding
community together.
While HealthAlliance oversees the consolidation of the hospitals’ management teams, medical
staff, and revenue streams, HealthAlliance also ensures that each hospital maintains its individual
mission and retains independent boards to address internal policy and quality issues.
Benedictine Hospital and The Kingston Hospital have spent the last two years collaborating with
each other, their physicians and the community to bring this new model for community health
care to fruition. It is in realizing this shared vision that the two hospitals, under HealthAlliance, will
continue to respond to and meet the growing health care needs of all people in Ulster County.
