The company’s mission is to produce and present musical theater from a variety of world traditions. Such works include American and Continental operettas, classic American musical theater, as well as contemporary fare. Since its inaugural season in 1981, LIGHT OPERA WORKS continues to be a leader in the United States for the presentation of these historically important and theatrically delightful works of art in productions similar in size and scope to their originals, in modern productions with professional artists and full orchestra, musical theater workshops for young performers ages 8 to 18, and small concert performances throughout the Chicago area. LIGHT OPERA WORKS is a member of the Illinois Arts Alliance, League of Chicago Theatres, National Alliance for Musical Theatre, the Evanston and Wilmette Chambers of Commerce and Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau. A F E W WO R D S F R O M T H E A R T I S T I C D I R E C TO R Welcome back to Nichols Concert Hall! For our fourth year of concerts in this beautiful space, we’ve decided to cast our net a little wider, beyond the works of a single composer or genre…so fasten your seat belts, we’re off to Hollywood! Tonight’s program features seven decades worth of great songs from the movies, and we’ve had so much fun exploring the wide variety of musical and vocal styles encompassed in those years. I couldn’t imagine a better gang with whom to share that fun! I’ve had a great time creating a program for these four special ladies, each of whom brings her own unique style and personality to the party. By the way, I’ve been kicking around the idea of an all-ladies (or all-gentlemen, for that matter) program for some time. As we began to pull together the songs for this concert, particularly all those great pop ballads, it became clear that the ladies’ time had come (sorry, gents---maybe next year!). I’m so grateful to have Jane and Jesus on hand to dress them so beautifully, with a real touch of Hollywood glamour. Finally, I must thank Linda for bringing everything together musically. It’s been a big challenge given the diversity (and sheer amount) of the material, and I’ve been lucky to have her at my side every step of the way. Enjoy! 2 Rudy Hogenmiller Artistic Director Light Opera Works P R O D U C T I O N S TA F F Director...............................................................................................................................Rudy Hogenmiller Music Director & Conductor...............................................................................................Linda Madonia Production Coordinator..........................................................................................................
