Based on Robert Fulghum’s bestselling books, “Kindergarten” takes a funny, insightful, heartwarming look at what is profound in everyday life. It’s an evening of theatrical storytelling in revue format, featuring colorful characters such as: the shy little boy who insists on playing the part of “pig” in his class production of Cinderella; a man who’s dream of flying carries him high over Los Angeles in a lawn chair buoyed by weather balloons; a mother of the bride who’s staged the perfect wedding until a bowling ball of fate comes rolling down the aisle. These stories celebrate our very existence, from the whimsy of childhood to the wisdom of old age. The Drama Club cast for this production includes: Morgan Lohse, Tyler Henken, Kiaya Kowalski, Kelsey Mindham, David Mor, J.J. baker, Bethany Eaton, Brittany Davidson and Sonya Stark with technicians Nick DiDiana and Samantha Zimel. We are also happy to announce that actual kindergarten class work will be on display in the auditorium and will be used in on our sets, thanks to Alden-Hebron kindergarten classes, and to our kindergarten teachers Ms. Bryak and Mrs. Fallon! Tickets for “Kindergarten” can be purchased at the door and cost $5.00 each. Join us for a wonderful evening of theatre. We’re even having cookies and milk at intermission! We do our best to keep the system updated. Recently, we upgraded our School Reach program to automatically sync every night with our PowerSchool database system. This will allow School Reach to be correct each time a message goes out. However, it is imperative that the school offices have your correct phone numbers on file. Please contact the school office to make any changes to your home and/ or cell phone numbers. We are now able to put two phone numbers per student in School Reach. Thank you for your help in keeping us updated. Save the date! Students must be 5 years old before September 1 to be eligible for our kinder- garten program. Parents will need to bring a copy of the child's birth certificate and three documents that prove district residency. Page 4 Library Automation We have purchased the software for automating both district libraries. Thanks to a generous donation from the Hebron State Bank and support from the PTO, along with money raised at the book fairs this year, we have raised enough money to purchase the initial software program. We are still raising money for new computers for each library to use as a card catalog as well as new books for our libraries. After training we will begin scanning in our collections throughout the month of May. This process will be long; how- ever, with help from volunteers we can get it done before the end of the school year. If you are still interested in helping with this conversion process, please contact Colleen Geils at 815-648-2442 EX. 530. If you are still planning to apply to McHenry County College, you need to get those applications in ASAP. There is a supply in the Guidance Office. Testing PSAE testing will be administered to all juniors on April 27th and 28th. The two-day test consists of the ACT (day one) and an ISBE developed examination (day two). This test is now a state mandated graduation requirement, so it is extremely important that students are in school for both days of the examination. The next ACT registration deadline is May 6, 2011 for the June 11, 2011 national test date. Students will have plenty of opportunities to take the ACT during their senior year of high school. PLAN testing will be administered to all sophomores on Wednesday, April 27th. The PLAN is a Pre-ACT test that assesses academic progress, provides an early indicator of college readiness and helps students understand and explore a wide range of career options. EXPLORE testing will be administered to all freshman on Wednesday, April 27th. The EXPLORE is a Pre-ACT test that helps ninth graders develop a high school course plan that prepares them to achieve their post-high school goals. When Should My Student Take the ACT? It is recommended that students take the ACT test for the first time in the spring of their junior year. That’s because the ACT is a curriculum-based test, and juniors have taken many of the necessary core courses by this time. It’s also the best time to start communicating with colleges and universities. Taking the ACT during junior year helps everyone being to seriously consider a college education. If your student tests as a junior, he or she will have test scores and other information in time to better help plan senior-year classes. Your student can retest if he or she feels the scores do not accurately reflect his or her abilities in the areas tested. Students can register online at www.act.org or pick up regis- tration packets from the Guidance Office. The cost for the ACT test without writing is $32.00. When combined with the optional ACT Writing Test, the total cost is $47.00. The “YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARD” is granted to any staff member in our district. This is an opportunity for students and families to nominate a teacher or any staff member that has significantly impacted the life of your student (s) or family. If you have someone in mind to nominate, please submit that information to Ms. Kim Qualls or Dr. Bridget Belcastro by Friday – April 15, 2011. Thank you for your participation in acknowledging one of our wonderful staff members. ALDEN-HEBRON VBS 2011 (Free this Year!)
