Week 6 Term 4
Thursday, 13 November 2014
It was great to join the Class of 2014 and their parents for the long awaited Formal on Tuesday
night. Being so used to seeing them in their rust and navy uniforms, it really was a sight to behold the elegant evening gowns, stilettos and updos. They are certainly enjoying their post-HSC
freedom.
Thanks to the Year 12 Class Parents for organising such a happy night: Jacqui and Lloyd Gilbert and Cynthia and Ton Jaucian.
Now the wait is on for the HSC results and ATARs. Some of our girls already deserve our congratulations!
School Captain, Marina Bouchahine, has won admission to Law at Macquarie University via the
Global Leadership Entry Program. GLEP supports students ‘who are not only doing academically well, but are leaders in their community, who are actively involved in extra-curricular activities, who succeed not just on paper but also in life.’ Congratulations Marina!
Rachael Johnson has won a place at Notre Dame University through the Young Achievers Early Offer Program. She plans to study a Bachelor of Secondary Education and Arts. Well done!
Congratulations also to Kathleen Carmody who achieved entry into Commerce at the University
of Sydney, including a $5,000 scholarship.
Emily Buxton is one step closer to her dream of an acting career. After a successful interview
and audition, she has been accepted into the Bachelor of Dramatic Arts program at the Australian Institute of Music. Well done Emily!
These happy stories demonstrate that there is more than one way for our girls to achieve their
post-school ambitions. There are so many options! Tangara’s Careers Adviser, Dr Rosa Carvalho, has lots of useful information for your daughter and is always available to discuss the
many opportunities that are out there. Not everything in life hangs on the ATAR!

Motto Week 6
Intelligence and free will are partners in prudence.
Quote:One column of truth cannot hold an institution of ideas from falling into ignorance. It is wiser that a person of prudence and purpose save his strength for battles
that can be won.
Bryant H. McGill
During life it is not all smooth sailing as we all have different ideas and opinions. This
means we can find ourselves from time to time coming into conflict with others. With the
virtue of prudence we learn that it is not always necessary to argue about everything we do
not agree with. Prudence helps us to pick our battles.
Prudence helps us to decide what is important to stand up and fight for and what is not.
Prudence tells us we must speak up for what is right and fight against what is evil. Sometimes we convince ourselves we are being prudent when we say nothing in the face of
wrong, when we are just being cowardly. At other times we can find ourselves being confrontational about issues which do not need our input and can be solved by others.
Prudence helps us to discern the difference and to judge the importance of an issue, before we speak. Prudence also dictates the best way to speak, so that we correct the wrong
without giving offence or hurting others. It is most important when we have a difference
of opinion to have enough prudence to judge the importance of the issue and to act accordingly.

useful task to practise and further improve their writing skills.

Live in the Library 2015
For the past 2 weeks many of our talented musicians, entertained all those in the Library. They
showed a great range of genre and style, from Jazz, to rock ,to classical music. It was a great success and fantastic to see so many girls come to watch and support their peers. I would like to
thank all the girls for a fantastic job and helping to bring a greater sense of school community to
the Library. The girls who performed were; Clare Carrington (singing), Alyssa Tchang (piano),
Catherine Nader (singing), Isobelle Patmore (flute), Angeline Castor (piano), Christabelle El-Rahi
(singing), Catherine Panayi (piano), Rachel Vala (singing), Year 11 Music 1 class, Magdalena Fernandez (singing), Belinda Griffin (violin), Teresa and Katelyn (singing and guitar), Year 10 Music
class and Sarah Kennaugh (singing). Another huge thank you to Mrs Staples , Mrs Beard and
Marta (Gap student) for organising the library and providing the girls with such an excellent venue and opportunity to perform, as well as Mrs Marlow for helping to prepare the girls and organising instruments, to ensure the performance ran smoothly.
