Hartman scholars engage in broad and deep analysis of
some of the dilemmas that faith in the modern world raises

Jewish thought and life. This curriculum addresses the big
questions raised by the intersection of faith and history,
faith and politics, and the faith experience. Contact
[email protected] to order the book. Other sessions: Jan. 26; Feb. 9, 16, 23.

work, and zero tolerance for sexual harassment and modern slavery. Come learn
from a farmworker leader of the CIW about their work together with consumers of
faith and conscience to transform the agricultural industry, and how you can be a
part of it. For more information about ECO DAY, please visit www.btcboca.org/

shalom hartman institute special presentations
Rabbi Steinhardt is proud to present the Shalom Hartman
Institute Scholar Series at FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society.
This series will explore the relationship between Israel and
Diaspora Jewry in depth - delving into its various contours including opportunities, challenges and responsibilities. Please note: all presentations
will be held at FAU at 4:00 p.m. Previously advertised presentations at B’nai
Torah have been cancelled, with the exception of Dr. Donniel Hartman’s lecture on
Thursday, February 25th at 7:30. Advance registration for FAU presentations
required. Registration forms are available in the synagogue office.
Diaspora after Zionism: American
Jews, At Home - February 4, 2016
Yehuda Kurtzer - The classic Jewish notions
of exile and redemption have given way to a current reality in which Jews“
in exile” feel as much at home as Jews living in Israel. What are the implications
of this new reality for Zionism and for Jewish life in the Diaspora?
Israel and the Diaspora in Competition: the Rabbinic Example - February
11, 2016 Elana Stein Hain - The Rabbis of ancient Palestine and the rabbis of
ancient Babylonia competed for authority in significant ways. This presentation will
explore the relevance of their competition for considering Jewish life today.
Israel as a part of the Identity of American Jews - February 18, 2016
Micah Goodman - The relationship of American Jews with Israel is more than a
question of opinion and policy. At its source, it is a question of identity. Israel is more
than what American Jews think about it a part of who they are. As a result, changing
attitudes toward Israel are making a change in the attitude of American Jews.
Israel and World Jewry: From Crisis to Covenant - February 25, 2016
Donniel Hartman - Upon exploring the foundations of Zionism, we find two
competing strands - one focused on survival and the other focused on culture.
While survival is crucial, it cannot be our sole aim. What does being a Zionist
demand when it is about building Jewish culture? *Be on the lookout for more
details about Dr. Hartman’s Scholar-in-Residence program February 27th at
B’nai Torah.
Join Rabbi David & tobi Steinhardt in Jerusalem for an inspiring week of
study and conversation at the Shalom Hartman Institute - Dates: June 28
- July 5, 2016. Theme: What is a Jew? Dilemmas of Identity in the 21st Century.
