May 26, 2013 Upcoming Activities and Opportunities at Federated TO OUR GUESTS.… Please know you are welcomed in the Spirit of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who always meets people where they are, not where they should be. We are grateful for your presence here this morning and hope to meet you later, to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea after worship in Fellowship Hall. CDs of this morning’s service are available there for $4.00 each. You can also listen online for free at fedchurch.org or subscribe to our iTunes podcasts. If you’re worshiping here for the first time, please take a green bag from our Visitors Welcome Center in the Narthex or Lobby. It contains useful information about who we are. God accepts me just as I am, and loves me too much to leave me that way. Federated accepts all people as they are and supports them in the spiritual journey. With Christ we offer hope and healing to change our world. Our Mission Statement Ahead At The Fed Sunday, June 2nd - Communion Rev. Our sessions are always after the first Sunday service ends and last anywhere from 15 minutes if there are no attendees to 1 ½ hours. All facilitators need not be present each week making it a flexible ministry. Employment Connection helps with every aspect of employment. You need not be versed in what to do as we will teach you how to be of service in this ministry. Women are especially asked to consider this opportunity as a female’s point of view is very helpful. Contact Greg Polyak at [email protected] or at 866.444.1004. With the one 10 am worship service Memorial Day weekend (May, 26th) at the Family Life Center (FLC), Employment Connections will also be held at the FLC immediately after the service. “OUT” Book Study Ministry - A new “OUT” Book Study Ministry is forming that will travel to other facilities to hold book studies. Teams of three or four will be put together to do a book study for four to six weeks, once or twice a year. We will travel to rehabilitation facilities, assisted living groups, jails, other places of worship, mental health institutions and others who contact us. We will begin with Hungers of the Heart and also offer other books as we do them. If you are interested in this new ministry, please contact Kate Parr at 440. 829.9613 or Patty Gates at 440.785.5296. 5 Oklahoma Disaster Hits Home - The media has been focused on the devastating tornado disaster in Oklahoma. Our own Edith Guffey is now the United Church of Christ Conference minister in the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference. Below is part of a message from her this week...We have now spoken to pastors in all of our churches in the Oklahoma City area. We remain fairly certain that no members of our churches lost lives or were seriously injured. And even though that is true for us, we grieve with so many others who have lost loved ones and who are facing incredible losses that they are only beginning to comprehend. We are grateful for the prayers, calls, and notes from churches, pastors, national staff and Conference Ministers from across the country. We have been told that the most helpful response at this point is financial aid. You can donate online by going to the website www.UCC.org/disaster. Under the column headed “Emergency USA” choose “Oklahoma tornado disaster.” Thanks for your prayers and assistance. Who has a GREEN Thumb? Volunteer Needed to Coordinate “Feed the Flock” Ministry This year, tasty treats and beverages have filled Fellowship Hall after services to offer worshippers an opportunity for refreshments and fellowship. This new ministry, “Feed the Flock” is sponsored by the Congregational Care Commission which has solicited, coordinated, plated and cleaned up the provided items since Rally Day! A huge THANK YOU to all who have helped with this effort! For next year, the Commission is seeking a volunteer to coordinate this important activity which brings our faith community together. This person will recruit and schedule volunteers to either bring food items and/or plate, serve and cleanup. Many weeks are designated by specific groups, and weeks which have specialty events such as Children’s Ministry Bake Sales aren’t scheduled. If you are someone who values this activity and is able to help, please contact Darlene Nichols at 440.247.6490 or [email protected]. We so appreciate your prayerful consideration. 8
