STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES TO THE
BOARD
Brittni Strezishar, Student ASID
It is hard to believe that June is here and
the summer fun is in high gear. So are the
graduations and school breaks that bring
students to a new setting for the summer,
or possibly for their future career.
Congratulations to all our student
members that have graduated this spring
or at semester break this year! What an
accomplishment and what an exciting time as you get ready to
work in a design-related field that you love. Forget about the
money, if you love what you do, you will do well. It sometimes
takes a while to find the exact niche or area that might bring
that success, but it will happen! Best wishes to all of you that
hold the future of Interior Design in your hands.
I cannot believe my year as president is going by so quickly.
Summer will breeze by and before you know it MARKET
SHOWCASE WILL BE HERE SEPTEMBER 11TH!! This year
we will be combining Market Showcase with our annual
meeting and making a few exciting changes there, which I
hope everyone will enjoy.
On Tuesday, August 21st, we will be travelling to Fort Wayne
to see the Vera Bradley headquarters and hopefully the Bass
Mansion, or some equally exciting tours up there. Thanks to
Roberta Stone and the Fort Wayne group for helping to get
this organized and arranged for us. More information will be
coming soon!

Between the Miller Tour on June 23rd in Columbus, Neocon in Chicago June 11 -13th, and our AFTER
HOURS emerging professional/all member and guest social on June 5th, I think we have it covered!! I
so hope you will take advantage of the Miller Home in Columbus. I am not just saying that because I
am from Columbus, but you will really enjoy the details of such a contemporary setting, both inside and
out. As close as we are to Neocon in Chicago, please take advantage of the many offerings and
presentations and CEU's that are there, as well as the newest and latest commercial interior furnishings.
Amy Yacko has done a great job of putting our AFTER HOURS social together for us on the 5th at 5.
This is for students and for our oldest members as well. Just have fun networking and seeing lots of
familiar faces, PLUS learn about improving your marketing skills. Alan Misch will also tell us about his
design work there at Hearthstone in Fishers.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR ASID MEMBERSHIP AND JOIN US FOR ANY OR ALL OF THESE
GREAT EVENTS!!

ASID Makes IMA Donation
In 2011, the Indiana Chapter ASID made a
very generous financial donation towards
the growing Design Arts collection of the
Indianapolis Museum of Art. Since that
time, Mr. Craig Miller, the IMA's Senior
Curator of Design Arts and Director of
Design Initiatives, has been searching for a
piece “worthy” of the chapter's donation.
That “worthy” piece was found on Sunday
evening, May 6, 2012 at LA's Los Angeles
Modern Auctions (LAMA) when the IMA
won the bid for Czech designer Borek
Sipek's “Prosim Sni” chaise. Designed in
1987 and manufactured by Driade S.p.A.,
this sensuous and elegant chaise is
constructed of steel, leather, wood and
fabric. Mr. Miller described the chaise (
beautifully illustrated in his catalog for his
2008 exhibition: European Design Since
1985; Shaping The New Century”) as
follows: “Such Postmodernist designers as
Sipek often like to interpret historical forms
– in this instance, a Recamier couch – in
remarkable new ways. Here, Sipek has
combined highly sculptural forms with a
rich palette of materials and colors”. Mr.
Sipek, born in 1949 and currently residing
in the Netherlands, is equally celebrated for
his decorative work in glass, silver and
porcelain as he is for his dramatic furniture
pieces.
According to Miller, the chaise is a “really
important” addition to the collection. The
piece is wholly funded by our donation and
will have the following credit line: “Design
Arts Society Fund with funds provided by
American Society of Interior Designers
Indiana Chapter”.
We look forward to the Museum's
forthcoming permanent exhibition of
contemporary design (2013) and know the
Sipek chaise will be a major component of
this important collection.
