Our chapter is so fortunate to have so many hard working
volunteers who make things happen. Our June chapter
meeting was hosted by Pro Source in Overland Park, Kansas.
The very informative CEU was “Natural Stone Foundations.”
It was a Lunch and Learn and the first we have had in many years. Turnout was good
and included lunch and a trade show of vendors after the presentation. We are so
happy that Pro Source put this program together for us.
June 28th was our Golf Outing at Fred Arbansas Golf Course in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
We had 14 teams of golfers that braved the 100 degree temperatures to be a part of
this event. Susan Prestia, Allied ASID of Interior Directions and Barbara Bishop,
Allied ASID of Transitions II were instrumental in arranging all the details involved
in the golf tournament, raffle and dinner. We netted $2,000.00 to go toward our
student scholarship awards and had a great time. The generosity of our Industry
Partner members and designers was so appreciated. We hope to offer this event
again next year and look forward to it growing every year.
We are approaching our chapter leadership retreat in August to prepare for our
upcoming year with the incoming and outgoing board attending. Our Chapter
Support Team leader, Julie Grisham, ASID will also be there for this intense two day
training and sharing of knowledge.
Please make plans to join us in our Wichita Design Chapter Meeting on September
14-15th. It should prove to be a very fun and informative time with tours of 3
prominent locations, an Art Show right in the area where we are staying and lots of
time to get to know our members in Wichita who are hosting this weekend. Call or
email me if you need more information. The details are in this newsletter as well.
We look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events. Have a great

In Memoriam
Clay Lyon
December 17, 1962 - June 18, 2012
Clay Lyon was an active member in the housing
and design community. Clay was on the board of
NARI, and past Board Member of ASID Missouri
West/Kansas Chapter.
He got people involved in his passions by bringing
in new members and volunteering in numerous
charity fundraisers. Clay worked on the Kansas City
Symphony Designers Show house for many years.
Active in sports, Clay played many sports and in
later years took up golf and excelled at it.
He was always professional, witty and fun in his
day to day life. A bit of a free spirit.
He is survived by is wife, Robin and son, Connor.
Clay leaves us with the joy having known him and
will be sadly missed.

Golf ‘Fore’ Scholarships

We all enjoyed a big day of golf at Fred
Arbansas Golf Course in Lees Summit,
Mo. There were 14 teams with 12
companies represented and 2 teams of
interior designers.
The ASID Missouri /West Kansas
Board would like to offer a Big

We were fortunate to have many
sponsors and thank all of them for their
generous donations and participation in
the event. Though the event was all about
having fun and supporting our student
members in their scholarships, we would
like to give credit to those who won.

Our 1st place team was Midwest
Fireplace. The longest drive was Matt
Davidson who was on the Midwest
Fireplace team. The ladies longest drive
went to Lindsey Frey.
Thank you to all who played and made
this tournament a reality. We hope to see
you all again next year.

Lunch N’ Learn

Our June meeting was educational and
informative in a number of ways.
ProSource hosted the meeting at their
newest showroom 7228 W. Frontage Rd
in Merriam, KS.
Manager, John Shafer and his staff
provided a great Mexican lunch for the
designers, and spoke briefly about the
ProSource products and services offered
to interior designers.
Daltile sponsored our CEU presentation
on Natural Stone which provided a great
review of the wide variety of stone
possibilities in interior design.
After the educational program,
designers were treated with a mini
tradeshow with various manufacturers
showing items and offering information
to the designers. As designers were
leaving, they were presented with a
lovely gift from ProSource.
ASID sends thanks to our hosts,
presenters, and the friendly and
professional staff at ProSource for a
great meeting.

IP Appreciation Night

Nearly 50 interior designers and students
enjoyed the July meeting at Project Living
Proof. The facility is a 100 year old home
that has been completely renovated to be
energy efficient and “sustainable”.
Designers were able to tour the house and
get questions answered by representatives
of the Metropolitan Energy Center, which
is designed to help designers, architects,
engineers and their clients to made
decisions which make an older building
very “green”.
This event, a cocktail party, was also
intended to honor our Industry Partners.
All Industry Partners present were able to
speak for a few minutes about their
company and their products and services.
I thanked the industry partners, on behalf
of our chapter, for their great energy and
the assistance they bring to ASID members
and also encouraged the students present
to consider seriously the goals of ASID –in
particular our work to provide continuing
education for our members, so that our
professional skills are constantly updated.
Jensen Adams, as a representative of the
Metropolitan Energy Center, welcomed the
