On Wednesday, October 15th, the Ormond
Beach Chamber of Commerce, in partnership
with the City of Ormond Beach, held the tenth
annual State of the City address at Oceanside
Golf and Country Club. Approximately 200
people attended the event.
Mayor Ed Kelley’s video presentation focused
on the City’s future…bright, prosperous and
healthy. The presentation highlighted major
economic development projects that were
completed in the last year including DuvaSawko, Emergency
Communications Network, and S. R.
Perrott, Inc., as well as new ones to
come soon such as Padwell Holdings
and Ameritech Die and Mold South. The
recently completed expansions and new
construction of these businesses
accounted for $13.8 in construction and
the creation/retention of 460 jobs.
In local government, partnerships are
critical, and Mayor Kelley emphasized
the importance of these partnerships the
City has with other agencies, groups and private citizens. With the
Mayor’s “Award for Civic Engagement” (ACE), Mayor Ed Kelley
recognized Peggy Farmer as being
instrumental in initiating a North US1 task
force of local and County officials and
business owners to improve the appearance
of the North US1 corridor. She worked to
secure funding from the Florida Department
of Transportation for median landscaping
and irrigation as well as funding from
Volusia County and private citizens.

p.m., Fridays 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., and Saturdays
11:00 to 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Children classes are held on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. to
3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Please visit the VertiFit website, www.vertifit.com, for

Health Freedom Event
The Health Freedom Event, a theatrical health awareness event, was held
at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 11th.
Ormond Beach resident Dr. Mike Van Thielen, a published author and
holistic health practitioner, presented information about nutrition and the
beneficial effects of eating a healthy diet. The live painting and lightshow of

Maintenance staff is putting in a lot of effort this time of year trimming, clearing pathways of fallen
limbs, even cleaning up and cutting back growth at the Nova Community Park around the land fill
monitoring wells so they can be properly monitored. Other tasks accomplished this week included
deck repair at the Emmons Cottage, relocation of Memorial Gardens trash receptacle, installing
benches at Memorial Gardens and Plaza Grande, and the installation of park rules signs at

Field
Maintenance
The Field Maintenance staff at the Sports Complex had another busy week keeping up with the
athletic activities going on seven days a week. Between nightly practices and games involving
Seabreeze High School, City Youth Flag Football, OBYBSA Baseball/Softball, City Adult Coed
Softball, Pride Football, T-Ball, as well as following up on the Wendelstedt fields work following the
irrigation replacement, they are plenty busy. This does not include the weekend Lady Renegades
softball tournaments, Freedom Sports adult softball tournaments, USSSA baseball tournaments,
and Pop Warner football games.

American Legion Post 267 and has served as its chaplain for the past six years. Reverend
Branch serves as a board member of the Volusia County Chapter of Gospel Music Workshop of
America, the Ormond Beach Housing Authority, the Ormond Beach Neighborhood Improvement
Advisory Board, and the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Advisory Board.
