NETWORK NEWS Women supporting women…you can make a difference! Annual Christmas Gala & Auction Domestic violence is the single largest women’s health issue in Canada, with more cases than either heart attack or stroke. And Statistics Canada reports that three to five children in every classroom witness domestic abuse in their own homes. Statistics also suggest a significant percentage of children who grow up in a household of domestic abuse become abusers or abused themselves as adults and so… early intervention is key to stopping this cycle. The YWCA Peterborough Crossroads’ 24 hour crisis and support line receives over 10,000 calls per year on average. Over 360 individuals are housed at Crossroads shelters annually and these include women from the ages of 17 to 88 and their children from newborns to late teens. The Women’s Business Network of Peterborough has been a supporter of the YWCA Crossroads Women’s Shelter for the past number of years because we believe in the premise of women supporting women. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 Canterbury Gardens, 1414 Sherbrooke St. 6:30 p.m. Bring your friends to this fun and festive event! Our annual Christmas Gala & Auction is just around the corner. The evening will once again feature live and silent auctions in support of YWCA Crossroads Women’s Shelter in Peterborough. Each year, Crossroads provides assistance to hundreds of women and children in our local community. They provide shelter, safety, counseling, food, clothing, and support to women leaving abusive relationships. The WBN board would like to say a warm THANK YOU to everyone who is donating this year. YOUR CONTRIBUTION will make a great difference in the lives of the women at the shelter. With cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and an amazing collection of silent and live auction items, this promises to be a fantastic evening for all! You can make a difference by generously donating an auction item for our annual Christmas Crossroads Gala and Auction. On December 1 we will be hosting this extravaganza at the beautiful Canterbury Gardens where you will see your auction item displayed for bidding, among many other exciting donations, in support of this essential community service. Thank you for your support….as every single item counts!
