spotlight:
On months the Sikeston Regional Chamber doesn’t have a luncheon our board members names are dropped into a bowl. The
winner of the drawing is spotlighted in the newsletter. November’s
winner was Mike Tomaszewski.
Mike Tomaszewski has worked for Tetra Pak Materials for 16 years,
he’s been a Plant Manager at several facilities within the company
for 14 years, and he has held that position in Sikeston for 8 of those
years. He is very active in the Sikeston-Miner community and
participates in a variety of organizations and events to improve the
local business climate, including a recent Basic Skills and Mentoring program initative for workforce development. Mike has been
on the SRC Board for the past two years. Mike is dedicated to the
140 employees he currently oversees with input from his supervisors and subordinates alike. The Sikeston team has made significant
improvements and grown substantially within the last 10 years.
Tetra Pak’s Sikeston plant now manufactures close to 30 different
products which go out to approximately 60 different
customers and currently produces roughly three billion cartons
per year. The Sikeston plant is a TPM Award Winner, and hopes to
obtain their second award this year, Mike and his wife Barbara have
three boys, one of which is an officer with Sikeston Department of
Public Safety.

OCTOBER JOB FAIR
Twenty companies took part in the job fair last
month hosted by the Missouri Career Center in
conjunction with the Sikeston Regional Chamber
at the Clinton Building in Sikeston. The job fair
was open to the public and showcased companies
and careers from around the area. All job seekers,
veterans, and non-veterans could meet prospective employers, submit applications or ask about
job openings. Not only do job seekers benefit from
participating in job fairs, the companies involved
do as well. The Business Insider recently released an
article detailing the ways job fairs can be beneficial
to companies who participate. Job fairs give companies access to an enormous amount of potential
employees under one roof, the article states. Job
fairs also provide the chance for a company to
increase their brand awareness by getting their
names, logos, and websites to the public. Finally
the Business Insider states, job fairs give businesses
the opportunity to meet and network with other
professionals. Click here for the full article.
The Sikeston Regional Chamber is currently taking applications for
the 2015 Vision Sikeston Program. In an attempt to motivate and better prepare the upcoming leaders in the community, Vision Sikeston
introduces opportunities, realities, and challenges of our area. The
program creates a network of leaders devoted to understanding and
improving the quality of life in our community. Individuals who have
a genuine interest in leadership, desire to learn, and want to become
more involved are encouraged to participate in this program. During six one day sessions, each participant will have the opportunity
to build on existing skills by means of seminars, training workshops,
and tours. Key areas of interest covered are as follows: education,
health care, agriculture, city infrastructure, community impact, business and industry, economic growth, and leadership development.
Visit our website for more information and to register! The deadline
to enroll is January 28, 2015 act fast as there is limited availability. See
the attached flyer for more information.

Sikeston Outlet Stores is proud
to announce two of their national
retailers were recently ranked at the
top of the list for customer satisfaction according to a
recent Outlet
Store ratings
report from
Consumer
Reports.org
as recently
reported
on NBC’s
Today’s
Show. BonWorth and Carter’s Babies and Kids
were the two stores receiving this
distinguished honor according to
Kyla Evans, Marketing Director at
Sikeston Outlet Stores. “We would
like to thank our local customers for
helping these two stores receive this
top ranking which was based on a
survey of over 50 of the nation’s major national outlet chains. You have
two of the best outlet stores right
here in Sikeston, and we hope that
everyone realizes what an honor
this is not only on a national but local level as well”, says Evans. Carter’s and BonWorth have been with
the outlet mall from the beginning
when Sikeston Outlet Stores opened
in the spring of 1993. For more

Erin Alcorn joined Alcorn Realty
just two months ago, but growing
up as the daughter of a property
developer, she’s anything but new
to the business. “Moving, selling,
renting…it’s all I knew growing
up.” When the opportunity arose
to work real estate in the town she
grew up in, Erin felt home buyers
and sellers always need new, fresh
ideas. “You can only do so many
additions and changes to your own
home. How much fun to help others! It’s rewarding finding the right
property for the right buyer and
helping them visualize their life
there.” Relating to a real estate agent
is very important. Erin feels it’s
crucial to be under the direction of
a broker who knows their business
and can teach their agents every
step of the way. Alcorn Realty currently employs twenty agents under
Sonny Alcorn, who has been a
licensed broker since 1972. “I want
to provide exceptional service! My
husband
Ben
and I
have
three
children
in different schools throughout Sikeston.
Between their activities and our
own, we’re all over town. I’m always
looking for what’s new on the market and how I can help clients”.
Historic Downtown Sikeston
Notice the fresh ink hue staining the fingertips of everyone
downtown these days? The
Historic Downtown Sikeston
in partnership with the Downtown Merchant Association
has a new
magazine, and
we can’t
put it
down!
BRINK is
the brainchild of
downtown merchants, the baby of
tireless volunteers, and one
seriously good looking piece
of print. In it’s pages you’ll
find food, merchant profiles,
events, arts and entertainment.
It’s part what Downtown looks
like today and part what it will
look like tomorrow.
Search around town for a copy
- on shelves, at hotels, in waiting rooms. Better yet, come
downtown and ask any merchant about it. You don’t want
to miss this.
