Hillendale Highlights 16 Joe Fulco, CCM, CCE Dear HCC Members, General Manager/COO November is here and the holiday season is upon us. The Club is decorated for the upcoming [email protected] Thanksgiving holiday and we will soon be adding the Christmas décor. The Club’s holiday guide is in final production and will be circulating soon. It lists all the pertinent information for our Club social events for the next two months. We have many wonderful events planned, so please make reservations as soon as possible. It is time to sign up for the Holiday Gala - and make sure you invite your friends to this event! The House and Social Committee have been hard at work adding several new twists to the Gala, and we are expecting a huge crowd. I would like to thank Leo Kelly for his service as our President for the past two years. His leadership, positive outlook on the Club’s future and ongoing hard work was instrumental in our progress (along with our Board which also worked extremely hard). Dean Mannlein has been elected to the position of President, and he will continue to move the Club in a positive direction. Dean worked tirelessly as our Treasurer with the Finance Committee and management staff. I would also like to thank Chris Swam and John Smyth as they depart from our Board; both made many contributions and were always involved with the Club. Congratulations to Becky Pauliny and Bo White as our new Board members - they are eager to continue the hard work necessary as they assume their new roles on the Board. This month you will receive our Annual Staff Holiday Fund information in your November statement. We have had a terrific year and all of our staff has done a great job. The Holiday Fund provides our Members a chance to express their thanks and appreciation to the Club’s outstanding staff (many are behind the scenes employees). All of the money collected goes directly to the staff (several senior staff members are not part of this fund as they have performance bonuses). In the spirit of the season, I hope you agree that this is an ideal time to show our loyal staff how much we care and appreciate them. Thank you so much for your support of our staff. The Clubs membership drive has had a spectacular year and we have welcomed 54 new families into the Club. As important, Member retention is high and we have had a few resignations this fall due to relocations and job changes. We have a healthy pipeline of potential new Members for the spring and Gabby Forte, Membership Marketing Director, has done an excellent job working with new Members to welcome them into the Club and to engage them into the HCC events. Several large groups of potential new Members have been in contact with the Club and we are optimistic that they will join in the months to come. Every Member is encouraged to recommend HCC to your friends and colleagues as the best family country club in the Baltimore area. As we enter November, the Club’s fall hours of operation are returning, most notable is that the Clubhouse is closed on Tuesdays. The Golf Pro Shop is closed Monday & Tuesdays, while the bag room, locker rooms and course will be closed on Monday but remain open on Tuesdays. Tennis is now completed a very successful season, and I would like to thank Matt Bilger and staff for a great season. Matt’s high energy level, despite his injury this season, and ongoing instructional opportunities were very well received by the membership. We look forward to another great season in 2015. Several tennis courts will remain open in the event the weather cooperates in November/ December. As the Club hits the home stretch on the 2014 season, I am very excited and thankful to the staff for all they did this past year and what they are planning for next season. Many of us (Brad, Jason, Tina, Joe and several service staff members) are completing year two with the Club. We have secured a learning curve and will continue to get better. Personally speaking, I am very proud of the past efforts by our staff, and we have had a great season. From a planning perspective there are many balls in the air as the committees, management staff and Board prepare for 2015. The most important thing that the membership can do is continue to be involved and support the Club as much as possible. Remember, your presence at the Club matters! Thanks for your support and please enjoy the upcoming holiday season. I look forward to seeing you at the Club. Joseph C. Director of Tennis This year at Hillendale was even better than I could have ever [email protected] imagined! We continued all of our great social events and had so many highlights this season that it would be impossible to list them all. But, here are a few: • We hosted the third annual RBaby Men's Doubles Invitational that raised over $58,000 for pediatric emergency care. Brendan Kincaid and his partner Xander Centenarri won the tournament overall. • We began the Sunday FREE Swings this summer, which was an hour-long clinic for children of all ages. These events were extremely popular and helped to create junior interest on the courts! • We had the second annual Hillendale Team Tennis event, which was a great success! The Phoenix Fire won overall: Rip Lambert, Matt Monacelli, Peggy Tomick, Bill Hallett & Kim Gross! Congratulations! • Kelsey Hill was the 17 & under Junior Interclub Champion, and William Ball was the 17 & Under Junior Club Champion! I would like to thank the members of the tennis committee for their guidance and support in helping organize our social tennis events. Winter Tennis Lastly , thank you to all of the members that played, watched, Tennis continues indoors this and supported our tennis program. We will continue to grow the winter with multiple lesson Hillendale tennis experience for current and new members to be the best options at Orchard Indoor in town! tennis, and Cross Keys RacFrom Alex and myself, thank you... and we will see you on the courts quet Club. Please contact me at [email protected] next Spring! Advantage Hillendale! for more information. Superintendent Update Dear Hillendale Members, As we enter November, I’m very excited to say that some of our equipment needs are now going to be met because of the incredible support of the membership. The Harry Schneider Legacy Open brought in enough money for us to purchase a used chipper and some other small equipment for the golf course maintenance operation. I want to thank everyone who was able to attend and those that couldn’t attend the event but still donated. I’d also like to thank Mr. Yates, our Green Committee Chairman, who worked extremely hard putting this tournament together and reaching out to a lot of members to make it a very successful event. This month we will begin the drainage project on #5 fairway and into the rough by the cart path. While we’re working in this area, we will be closing the 5th hole. I anticipate the project taking 2 weeks and my goal is to finish it before Thanksgiving. If you have any questions regarding the project, feel free to come see the process while we’re working, or follow my blog for updates. Finally, the leaf season is in full swing. We are doing our best to keep up with the leaf removal around the course but there are some days where the conditions make it impossible to stay ahead of the falling leaves. Please be patient as we balance our projects, mowing, and leaf cleanup with a limited staff. We’re hoping for a quick leaf season. We’ll see how that goes! If you have any questions about donating to the Legacy Fund, our winter projects, equipment purchases, or general course maintenance, please contact me and I’d be Brad Novotny glad to explain our plans!
