tion day
The Study Start Week has started with the
registration of the new students in the hallways of Stenden. Starting from 8.30 in the
morning all national and international students came to different meeting points to
register in the school system and to get their
starter-package. The starter-package contains flyers of upcoming events, brochures,
the academic calendar and of course the
shirts. From now on the hallways were filled
with colorful people wearing their shirts.
Depending on the study program, the groups
are recognizable on the different colors of
their shirts. Media students own a classic
black shirt, tourism students a friendly yellow
shirt, the leisure students a nice orange, and
the hotel students purple and pink shirts,
fitting to the Stenden colors.
Waiting in line was not that much fun of
course. However, the students were able to
meet new people and share the exciting experience. Different nationalities, languages,
and genders came together and formed an

interesting melting pot. From Dutch people to
Asian people, you were able to meet all different kinds of nationalities here. Interesting
to know was, why students chose to study
in the Netherlands and why they chose a
certain study program. All that were exciting
topics to talk about. To shorten the waiting
time, the MEM Learning Company built up a
live radio station, where students were entertained by good music, as well as interesting
interviews and stories about Stenden.
After finishing the registration, the students
could officially start the Study Start Week. A
week full of fun and interesting challenges
began from that point on. Now the students
will meet their fellow students and will enjoy
a great time. By participating in the different
group activities the upcoming four days, will
unite and bind the groups. This opens the
way for a good working atmosphere during
the first weeks of the study program.

parties of the week. The pleisure party is
a party organized by the Leisure management students where there is always a
theme involved. The theme of this year’s
party is the 90’s, especially famous celebrities from the 90’s.

StuRa
Did you enjoy the StuRa party at Fire Café
last night? That was the great work of the
StuRa. But who are they and what are they
doing?
StuRa is the abbreviation for the Dutch word
“studentenraad”, and it’s members build the
connection between the students and the
tutors. Moreover the team arranges events,
with the objective of creating students’ extracurricular time more interesting and full
of cultural experiences. As for example, the
workshop department is organizing cultural
nights, such as Chinese dinner nights, prepared by student from that culture, while the
event department makes events/ projects
like barbeques, parties in Leeuwarden’s
nightlife, and the well-known WinterBall.
Moreover there is an improvement and development department, which is responsible

for student’s complaints, and module evaluations, in order to enhance our studies. The
online marketing department posts regularly
on Facebook and keeps social networks
like LinkedIn and Instagram, but also blackboard up to date.
Students can contact the StuRa via Email

their office hours (room 0.76). It’s always
open on Tuesday and Thursdays from 11am
until 2pm.
Tourism students take your chance! During
the following module, StuRa is recruiting
enthusiastic team members for the departments “Improvement & Development” and
“Online Marketing.
In to the wild f
This Thursday, from 17:00 till 23:30, you
don’t want to miss the Into the Wild Festival. This festival is an excellent way to start
your school year. You will find delicious food,
cold beers, amazing music and a lot more.
Everybody is welcome so call your friends
and be there.

The location of this festival is at the Kenniscampusplein, between Stenden and NHL.
You can get there on your bike, car or you
can take bus 12 to NHL Hogeschool.
Ronnie Flex, Rudi Feral (better known as
Ruud Feltkamp), Stepherd & Skinto, Praia
del Sol, DJ Lanx, Lionel Rocks and Adamski
will be there to make sure you are dancing.

The Leip! Intro provided the students with several
activities around Leeuwarden.
In the Harmonie, students received a card where
they had to draw a portrait of someone else and in
the end they were all put together and displayed.
Zaailand provided the first year students with
information about different organizations regarding
food, facilities, sports and the like.
Close to the horse, a small dance session has been
arranged. Everyone should follow the instructor
and eventually it became a funny choreography.
In front of the Oldehove, body percussion was the
main theme. Thus, clapping, stomping with your
feet and snapping were all part of the routine.

What better way to get to know your university – Stenden –
by going around taking pictures of various random places?
This is exactly what the Leisure Management students had
to do.
Disguised as a photo hunt, all the groups received snaps
of a place located in somewhere around Stenden. Their
goal was to find those locations and take a group picture
in front of it.
While following a couple of Leisure Management groups,
their first impression of Stenden and its environment has
been asked.
Megan (18) from the Dutch stream describes it as rather
dynamic, cozy and comfortable. Adding with a smile, that it
appears to be better than NHL ;).
Roman’s (20) first impression was pretty good, inviting and
most of all, he is looking forward to the rest of the week.
