Suncoast Region Camp Cooroora Information Phone: (07) 54425285 Email: [email protected] Website: www.campcooroora.scoutqld.com.au HOW TO GET THERE From South: Travel north via the Bruce Highway, turn off at the Cooroy exit, cross over the railway line in Cooroy and turn into Diamond St. ( Service Station on corner) This then leads into Cooroy – Noosa Road . Follow this road fro approx. 6 kms. until you cross over Six Mile Creek. Then turn into Sivyers Road and follow Blue Signs. “Scout Camp and Fish Hatchery”. At the end of the sealed Road, (large water storage tanks on either side of road) continue on dirt road and look for Scout Camp sign on left. Make a sharp left hand turn which leads into campsite. From North: Turn off at Cooroy exit and follow until you pass Cooroy Primary School on right. Take turn into Diamond Street, (Service Station on corner) and then follow instructions as above. From Noosa/Tewantin: Take Cooroy – Noosa Road out of Tewantin for approx 7 kms. Look for for Sivyers Road just before Six Mile Creek. Turn right into Sivyers Road and follow instructions as above. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO ACCESS TO COLLWOOD ROAD FROM LAKE MACDONALD ROAD. Location Map UBD or Gregory’s Map 5 L9 Campsite & General Information Set on part of the northern banks of Lake Macdonald between Cooroy and Tewantin on the Sunshine Coast, this campsite covers an area of 33,090m2. The site is mainly grassed with tress bordering all boundaries including that of the lake. A large ‘A framed’ building ‘Kookaburra Lodge’ is located near the northern side of the site which contains an enclosed activity room. Male and female toilets and showers are also situated in this building. Upstairs is located the ‘Gilwell Room’ a well appointed training room . Adjacent to this building is a partly enclosed kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has a gas/electric stove, two refrigerators and a large Bar-B-Q. It has ample preparation and serving space. . FACILITIES Washrooms and Toilets. Hot and Cold running water, hot showers and flush toilets are provided. Water. Hot and cold running water is available in the kitchen. There are a number of water taps situated around the campsite. Wood. Fallen timber is plentiful in the wooded areas of the campsite. Cutting of standing timber is strictly forbidden. Cut timber is available on occasions at request. In these ‘Environmentally Aware’ times we have to insist that fires are only lit on the permanent fire spots and kept to a reasonable size. Kitchen and Dining area. A well appointed and large kitchen is available which contains a 5 burner gas stove with a fan forced electric oven. Also a 3 burner gas BBQ. Toasters, Urn and Microwave oven are also available on request. Some cooking equipment is also available. The kitchen has two fridges to keep your food cold. There are 2 long tables in the dining area which can seat up to 50 people. Gilwell Training Room. A well appointed training room is situated on the first floor of Kookaburra Lodge. This room sits approx. 12 15 people comfortable with small desks, or up to 30 people with chairs only. An OHP. Digital projector, TV and DVD/VCR player are available as well as a large double sided whiteboard and large pull down projection screen. Charges apply. Floodlights 3 Floodlights aluminates most of the camping ground. Each light has its own switch and can be used on request. Chapel: A quite secluded bush chapel is available at all times for quite meditation or Scouts Owns. Also available for weddings. POA Your Choice of Camping. only. Unfortunately, local Council regulations prohibited swimming in the lake. Hiking: Camp Cooroora is situated at the southern point of the Noosa Trail. This Trail extends to Kin Kin and Cooran areas and is ideal for hiking, mountain bikes and horse riding. A number of camping spots are located en route. A brochure on the Trail is available from most information outlets. Fishing: Lake Macdonald is stocked with Bass, Mary River Cod and a host of other types of fish. A permit is required and can be obtained from the Caretakers. Noosa, Local Area and Beaches: Noosa is only 20 minutes drive from Camp Cooroora. The best beaches in Australia stretch north and south of Noosa and are patrolled during the summer months by Surf Livesafeing Queensland and Councils in winter. For those people who love to explore the country side, the hinterland offers many scenic drives. FEES Camping for Scouts and Guides $4 per person per night Camping: $5.00 per person per night. Caravans/Motorhomes: $7 per person per night. Day use: $2.50 per person. Electricity (Metal power boxes only) $2 per night per point. Training Room: Charges on application. You will not need keys as all amenities will be opened for you. CAMP RULES · The Scout Law and Promise must be observed by all at all times . · All rubbish MUST be deposited in bin provided.. · Kitchen and dining area to be kept clean and tidy at all times. kept in the corrals provided by Noosa Council to the back of the campsite. All droppings must be picked up and deposited in the bins provided. DEPARTURE · The kitchen and dining area has been swept and no food left in refrigerators. · If you have used the activity room, ensure all equipment is put away and sweep the floor. · Make sure all fires are out. · Report to Caretaker and advise of any breakages. · Rubbish is to be deposited in bin provided. · Remember to come back again. LATRINES Because of the ecological nature of the campsite and the closeness it is to the lake, NO Latrines are to be dug on the campsite.
