VBS Update
Sadly, we have not had many volunteers step forward this
year to help with our VBS program, Surf Shack. We are
greatly in need of more people coming forward to help lead
stations (snack and storytelling) as well as at least 8 group
leaders to help lead groups from one station to the next,
including our youngest preschoolers. Without enough help,
we may have to cancel VBS for the summer. Currently,
many of our “regular” volunteers are not able to help this
summer, so we are in dire need of some new faces to step
up. We also need a decorating committee to get started
planning out our decorations for the week. VBS is scheduled to run June 20-24th from 9am-12noon. Decorating
takes place the week before. Please contact Valerie at
[email protected] if you are able to help out with VBS
this summer or if you have additional questions. If we aren’t
able to fill the positions we are lacking in, our only choice is
to cancel, with the hope of trying to develop a team again
next year. Thank you!

BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH
HARRISONBURG, VA
PARISH LIFE
CCW still has several of our Prayer Ministry booklets
available.
Do you know anyone who is homebound or ill and cannot
get to church regularly? Do you carry Communion to shut
ins? Do you have a student away at college or in the military? Do you have a son or daughter who has moved away
from the community and can no longer worship with us?
Our prayer ministry booklets were made with all of these in
mind as a way of letting them know that they are missed
and that we can all pray together even when circumstances keep us apart. Some of them are available at the ushers
table, or you can get them from the office during the week.
They are available in English and Spanish.
We continue to go through HUGE numbers of plastic grocery bags. We cannot accept paper bags because the
glue attracts pests. Please bring us your clean, used
plastic bags, and clean used egg cartons, and put them in
the grocery carts in the commons. Thanks so much!
Also THANK YOU to everyone for responding to our request to not park near the back door of the food pantry on
Sundays. It has really helped with our Sunday deliveries!
Beginning May 5, the Thursday night study group will be
reading and discussing the book "On Heaven and Earth" a
dialog between Rabbi Abraham Skorka and Pope Francis
before he became Pope. Meetings will be from 7-8:30PM
in the BSCC Library. For more information contact Frank
Viscomi at 540-421-5376, or [email protected].
Spiritual Book Club will be reading "The Thing: Why I am
a Catholic" by G.K. Chesterton. We will read the first 16
chapters for the May 9th meeting. We will read the remaining chapters for the June 13 meeting. The meetings are
held in the church library at 7:00 on the second Monday of
the month. The book can be found online as an ebook from
Kindle (0.99) or as a free ebook /pdf at multiple sites.
HAITI TWIN PARISH MINISTRY
Something New Coming to Blessed Sacrament!
In the spring of 2015, a Sunday bulletin call went out from
Fr. Joe to parishioners who might be interested in exploring a new initiative called Faith in Action. Since that time, a
group has been meeting with Fr. Joe, and is very excited
to be introducing Faith in Action to the parish on May 15,
Pentecost Sunday. Faith in Action is a coalition of congregations in Harrisonburg/Rockingham County. As people of
faith, we work to serve our neighbors through various ministries such as Open Doors, food pantries, community
meals and People Helping People. At the same time, there
are broader issues that one faith community cannot solve
alone. More information will follow explaining how Faith in
Action works to meet those needs, and what Blessed Sacrament’s role will be. For questions or information, contact Bret and Julie Hart at 540-408-4340 or [email protected].
WILL YOU SPONSOR A STUDENT IN HAITI? The BSCC
Haiti Ministry has three students who need sponsors. All
are students already in our sponsorship program, but they
need new sponsors.
Student sponsors pay $25/month to cover all costs of attending either Ste. Bernadette School in Anse-a-Galets or
the St. Jean Baptiste chapel primary school in Petit Anse.
Ideally, sponsorships are maintained through a recurring
donation through the BSCC website, although you also
can pay monthly or annually through the first Sunday Haiti
collection or by mail.
To get more information or sign up, contact Pam Mason at
[email protected] or 540-578-1364.
