Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 24, 2016 Page 2 ST. RITA CATHOLIC CHURCH, DADE CITY, FLORIDA Faith Formation July 24, 2016 Formación de la fe What is the RCIA? RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and it is the process through which persons -& adults and children - join or complete their initiation into the Catholic Church. Is the RCIA for me? The RCIA is for three groups of people: 1. Those who are not baptized. 2. Those who were baptized into another Christian denomination and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. 3. Baptized Catholics who were never formed in the Catholic faith and have not completed their initiation; that is, who have received neither of the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. How does the RCIA work? RCIA consists of four periods of formation which are marked by rituals that celebrate what has been completed and call a person into the next phase. There is no specific length of time for each period. The RCIA is a ;journey that "takes as long as it takes," according to each individual. The Inquiry or Precatechumenate 1. The Catechumenate 2. The Lenten period of Purification and Enlightenment 3. Mystagogy or a time of deeper understanding of the "mysteries" How do I find out more? If you are interested in learning more about the Catholic Church visit or call Saint Rita Catholic Church. – Amen Page 3 www.stritaparish.org 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Gospel of Luke 11:11-13: “What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent. Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” As we know from our Baptism ceremony we are all signed on the crown of the head with the sacred chrism to receive the Holy Spirit (the gift of God the Father) intentionally and later ‘fully’ in the Sacrament of Confirmation when the Bishop confirms us with the same chrism on the forehead. But what happens in between? Hopefully through the example of our parents and godparents and other believers we are encouraged and grow in the faith by learning prayers, attending Mass and participating in religious instruction (Faith Formation). However, we need to know God personally too. We need to call upon the same Holy Spirit to enlighten us and guide us. In this way we become sure footed in our Christian walk. So indeed let us not tire of asking, seeking and expect to receive help from God through the Holy Spirit. Fr. Jim Preskenis, C.S.C Associate Pastor Evangelii Gauidium July 24, 2016 Del Escritorio Del Párroco I want a Church which is poor and for the poor. They have much to teach us. Not only do they share in the sensus fidei, but in their difficulties they know the suffering Christ. We need to let ourselves be evangelized by them. The new evangelization is an invitation to acknowledge the saving power at work in their lives and to put them at the center of the Church’s pilgrim way.
