Saint John the Evangelist
Little things are indeed little, but to be faithful in
little things is a great thing.” Saint Teresa
... Pope Francis’ recent Apostolic Exhortation, ‘The
Joy of Love’ was intended to continue the discussion about a number of important doctrinal, moral,
spiritual and pastoral questions surrounding marriage and family life in our time. Bishop McElroy is
continuing that process by calling a Diocesan
Synod in San Diego on October 29 and 30 to further
explore ‘The Joy of Love’, and to reflect together
on possible ways to meet these challenges. Every
parish in San Diego will be participating in the
Synod. Our own Phil Lampe is busily preparing as
our delegate. But he needs to hear from us! Plan
to be part of a special ‘listening’ gathering, in our
Hall, on Tuesday (20) at 7:00pm.
... The feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
this Wednesday (14) celebrates the dedication, by
Emperor Constantine, in 335, of the basilica above
the grave of Jesus in Jerusalem, and the discovery
of the Lord’s Cross by the empress, Saint Helena,
in 320. The present Church of the Holy Sepulcher
was rebuilt in 1149.
... Thursday (15) is the memorial of Our Lady of
Sorrows, whose sorrows, since the 1300’s, have
been numbered as seven? Can you name them?
... We cannot forget September 11, 2001, and the
total disregard for human life and the freedom of
peace loving people to go about our daily lives! We
remember, and continue to pray for a spirit of
beauty and unity in our country, for the strength for
all to live free from fear! A time to pause.
… This Thursday (15), our School Board meets at
6:30pm, in the Library!
... Contributions last weekend (4) amounted to
$16,750.00 with 359 families using envelopes. A
further $5,481.00 was contributed ‘Online’ with
156 families participating! Your are good!
... Our Altar Society have ‘Bibles and Beads’ available in the Hall after AM Masses, today (11)!
... ‘Friends of the Poor’ Walk, sponsored by our
Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, will be on
Saturday, October 1, here at Saint John! Walk just
1 mile! For even more info, or to register, visit
www.fopwalk.org Join us!
... Our Saint John Seniors gather this Thursday
(15) for Mass at 11:00am, and a delicious Lunch at
12:00pm, with entertainment until about 1:15pm.
It is always fun! Get your reservations in!
September 11, 2016
... Congratulations to Bishop McElroy on his 6th
Anniversary of Episcopal Ordination on Wednesday (7). Ad multos annos!
... Our Holy Name Society resumes their monthly
meetings on Monday (12), at 7:00pm!
… Our Sunday Preschool Program, from 8:50am
until after 9:00am Mass, is for our 3, 4 and 5 year
olds. It takes place at our Saint John Preschool, and
begins this Sunday (25)!
... Registration for our Religious Educationclasses, is under way, in the Religious Ed Office.
Classes are on Mondays at 4:15pm and 6:30pm and
begin on Monday (26). For more info give Ann
McGinnis a call at 760 436-0664. Learning
... And for Junior High ‘Faithways’, that's Grades 7
and 8, classes also begin on Monday (26). Forms
are available at the Parish Office and on the website.
For more info, call 760 753-4279.
... Confirmation enrollment continues with Parent
Meeting opportunities this
Saturday (10) at
6:15pm, and Sunday (11) at 10:15am, 11:45am,
1:15pm and 6:15pm, all in the Hall. Classes commence the week of October 2. Calendars with all
meeting times are available in the Parish Office and
on the website. For info, call Isaac at 760 753-3679.
... The Seven Sorrows of Mary are said to be: the
presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the flight into
Egypt, Jesus being lost in Jerusalem, the meeting of
Mary and Jesus on the way to Calvary, the crucifixion, the taking down of Jesus’ body from the cross,
and his burial.
... The memorial of Robert Bellarmine, Jesuit
scholar, who died in 1621, and is patron of catechists and catechumens is this Saturday (17). This
Sunday (18) we recognize our catechists!
... An old monk said: “I’ve prayed and prayed
about this parable, and I’ve found out who’s really
at fault in this story! The father! He’s the problem!
Why didn’t he ever tell the good son he was doing a
good job? Why didn’t he put on a lavish banquet for
him? Why did he make such a commotion over a
ne’er-do-well who squandered half the fortune and
now will probably get another half of what rightly
belonged to the first?” That’s our Father!
... “Stop trying to earn reconciliation. Just abandon yourself to God’s searching mercy. God is
seeking you more than you are seeking God, so
“here I am as I am” is all one can say or need to
say.”

RECONCILIACIÓN
RECORDAR EL 11 DE SEPTIEMBRE
La verdadera reconciliación es emocional, dramática
y purificadora. Cuando dos personas se encuentran de
corazón a corazón para
reparar viejas heridas,
malentendidos
y
palabras descuidadas,
lágrimas purificadoras
fluyen con frecuencia y
el encuentro termina con
un abrazo que llena a
ambas con el calor de un
amor demasiado fuerte
a Dios.
todavía vuelve a llamarlos.
¿Cómo podría mi fe católica ayudarme a sobrellevar
