The ability to read music is helpful but not required. Choir members must possess a sense of pitch, a love of singing, an appreciation for music of various styles and genres, and a commitment to our weekly rehearsals for a full choral season. Training Needed: Will be provided Time Commitment: Choir rehearsal each Thursday evening from 7-9pm. Additional rehearsals will be scheduled for Christmas, Easter, and other special choral liturgies thought the season. Duration of Commitment: One year (choir season September- early June) CHILDREN CHORISTERS (children's choir) Children Choristers is a single singing ensemble for students enrolled at Divine Mercy Catholic Academy, or the Parish Religious Education Program in the 1st through 8th grades. There are exciting opportunities for music education and performance including participation in the parish’s celebration of the 10:30am Sunday Eucharist on an average of once a month. The Children Choristers will also be enrolled in the American Federation of Pueri Cantores, a reputable program for children's choirs, offering the opportunity for involvement on a national level with both regional and national choral festivals throughout the year. Training Needed: Will be provided Time Commitment: 60-minute choir rehearsal each Thursday afternoon from 3:15pm-4:15pm. Additional rehearsals will be scheduled as needed. Duration of Commitment: One year CANTOR PROGRAM Ministry Goal: To act as leader of sung prayer at all liturgical functions. Age: High school age or older. (exceptions made based on musical ability and development) Training Needed: Must possess a pleasant voice and sense of pitch; some previous experience and musical background preferred, but not necessary. Time Commitment: Minimum of one Eucharistic Celebration per month; private rehearsal with the music director for proper preparation and training. Duration of Commitment: One year at a time with reliability being a must. Simplemente no podían entender que esta fuera la voluntad de Dios, después de que Pedro había proclamado que Jesús era “el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios vivo.” ¡Era absurdo! Pero cuando Pedro trató de disuadir al Señor, Jesús lo reprendió severamente: “¡Apártate de mí, Satanás, y no intentes hacerme tropezar en mi camino, porque tu modo de pensar no es el de Dios, sino el de los hombres!” Los cristianos estamos llamados a ser discípulos de Cristo: un privilegio y un desafío. El privilegio es que el discípulo adquiere una estrecha amistad con Dios. El mismo Jesús les dijo: “Ya no los llamo siervos, a ustedes los llamo amigos, porque les he dado a conocer todo lo que le he oído a mi Padre” (Juan 15, 15). Piensa en lo fantástico que es ser conocido como “amigo de Dios”. ¡Qué magnífico honor! El desafío es que en el camino del seguimiento a Cristo siempre surgen las dificultades, porque hay veces en que la limitada inteligencia humana tiene que enfrentarse al misterio de la Sabiduría Divina. Este proceso resulta a veces difícil; pero, así como a un niño le cuesta entender la prudencia de sus padres, así también el discípulo va creciendo en sabiduría a medida que acepta cada vez más la acción de Dios, que va formando en él un corazón nuevo. Al principio, Pedro y los demás tuvieron dificultad para entender las obras de Dios, pero no por eso dejaron de obedecer. Al final, todos llegaron a ser faros de luz que proyectaron la gloria de su amado Maestro. El gozo y la fortaleza que Dios les dio, el fruto del íntimo conocimiento del amor de Dios, compensaron con creces el costo del discipulado. Y el Señor quiere que tú también seas su discípulo y un instrumento valioso en sus manos. ¿Lo aceptas? Si lo aceptas, serás “amigo de Cristo”. “Amado Señor, yo quiero servirte y ser discípulo tuyo, pero no siempre me siento capaz. Ayúdame, Señor, y dame lo que necesito para cumplir tu voluntad y seguir tu camino.” Amen. Gracias Señor.
