) All K38th grade scholars attend a production at First Stage once during the school year. In addition to the theater production, First Stage educators present preshow and postshow workshops at Catholic East. These 45minute interactive sessions take place in the classroom the week before and the week after a classroom’s trip to see a First Stage performance. Students develop a deeper understanding of the play’s themes as well as a stronger connection to the curricular ties explored within the show. The postshow workshops include an extended talkback with the Teaching Artist. This December, 2nd graders attended “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” As Kate Donaldson states, “First Stage is a really fun place to go and act!” First Communicants Share Their Excitement! Second grade is an exciting time to be a Catholic. Many of us have fond memories of our First Communion Day. In a survey completed by our 2nd grade scholars, this is what they had to say about what they are most excited about when they wait in anticipation for their First Communion. ● I am excited about eating the ●

bread and wine.! I am excited because nothing makes a noise or a sound. I am excited about receiving the body and blood of JESUS Christ! I am very, very excited for eating the bread and wine, but I have heard that the bread and wine do not taste good. Getting Jesus in my body !!!! Having Communion!!!!! I am most excited to get the bread and to be apart of God’s family. I am so happy to have it I could cry. I can’t wait to put on my suit! (Cont. p. 2, Communion) Communion

That I get to be apart of God’s family and I get to receive the Eucharist! Getting Jesus in my body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Meet Mrs. Ferda and Ms. Petraitis Mrs. Ferda Grade 2A Leprechaun Traps I began my teaching career at Catholic East Elementary in 2011. I earned my BA in Elementary Education and History from Marquette University. I really enjoy traveling, spending time with my family, playing basketball, and taking photographs. I am an avid Brewers fan and love attending games. I also love to spend time outside, whether it is riding my bike, playing catch with my husband, or simply going for a walk. I really like the culture of excellence that has developed with high academic and moral expectations. I also love the enthusiasm that the students bring to the classroom each and every day. I truly enjoy working at Catholic East. Ms. Petraitis Grade 2B On March 17th, our budding 2nd grade engineers designed traps to capture those pesky leprechauns. Much to their surprise when they returned to their classrooms from gym, they found their traps did not capture any leprechauns but rather their room was turned upside down by leprechaun shenanigans! This is my first year teaching at Catholic East Elementary but my 11th year teaching in the primary grades (in Illinois). I am very excited to be living in Milwaukee and cannot wait to explore it even more than I already have. I went to DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois where I earned my BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Child Psychology. I am a huge sports fan but love watching the NFL the most. I love Da Bears, Da Bulls, Da Blackhawks, and Da White Sox!! I could take or leave the Cubs :) In my free time I love spending time with my friends and family, cooking, working out, traveling, and reading. I also love taking pictures. I am super excited to bring all of my experiences to Catholic East and to our second graders!
