Daily Tour Itinerary • May 19-29, 2017
Saturday | Day 1 of Tour (arrival on Friday) | L’Italia, la Vita e l’Amore! : Italy, Life, and Love!
Ready for your adventure? Walk with a local guide through the picturesque streets of Florence, opening up a window into the history
of main sites such as the Duomo (cathedral), Santa Croce, the Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge), the grandiose Piazza della Signoria, among
many others. Trace Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo’s steps alongside churches, buildings, and elegant shopping areas of this fascinating
outdoor museum! Check in at the Villa near Lucca, a hilltop town along the coast. Meet downstairs for a group dinner at the Villa with local
specialties and wine.
Meals included: breakfast, dinner
Sunday | Day 2 | Dalla Roccia ai Capolavori : From Rocks to Masterpieces
First stop: Pisa. Go ahead, take the photo “holding” the tower and check it off your list! If you’re brave, try climbing the tower! Meet up
with the group for a group lunch at a seafood restaurant on the beach in nearby Marina di Pisa. Panoramic tour of the famous Carrara quarries
known around the world for their beautiful white Italian marble. Then, stop in the small mountain village of Colonnata, learn how the delicacy
“lardo” is made and aged in marble tubs with secret family spice mixes, and taste this unusual delight! Final stop of the day: walk around
Pietrasanta, a lovely village along the coast.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch
Monday | Day 3 | Le Terre Incantate : The Enchanted Lands
Visit the fascinating Cinque Terre –five fishing villages that have become a World Heritage protected site, and a legacy left by man’s enduring
spirit of adaptation to nature’s erratic forces, and the strenuous reliance on sea and land for survival. First stop will be Manarola, where we will
take the train to Monterosso, the only one of the Cinque Terre with a beautiful beach. Next, the “pearl of the Cinque Terre”: Vernazza, a lovely
seaside community. Visit the lively seaside community of Portovenere by boat, admiring the dramatically steep mountains from the water. The
ancient Portus Veneris is believed to date back to the middle of the first century B.C. In Roman times the city was essentially a fishing community,
and in the centuries that followed, Portovenere became the base of the Byzantine fleet in the northern Tyrrhenian Sea.
Meals included: breakfast, dinner
Tuesday | Day 4 |Dagli Etruschi alla Tavola : From the Etruscans to our Table
Explore the Etruscan Coast. First stop is Casale Marittimo, a tiny village of Etruscan origin – a little gem that is almost devoid of tourists. Our
second stop will be Castagneto Carducci, a hilltop town with a Medieval heart that still beats today throughout its maze of cobblestone streets,
picturesque alleyways, small piazzas, and terracotta rooftops. Take a short drive to a local winery for a private tour and tasting. This coastline
is now one of the most high-level wine producing areas in Italy. Next stop is Bolgheri, an ancient village situated in the heart of the Etruscan
Coast, famous for the Viale dei Cipressi, an impressive 3-mile long “driveway” lined with century-old cypress trees, leading up to the Castle.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch
Wednesday | Day 5 | Passione Toscana : Tuscan Passion
Drive up to Lucca and meet a local guide for a walking tour of this charming town completely surrounded by massive walls, on top of
which lay a greenway adorned with spectacular trees. Enjoy the circular “Piazza Anfiteatro”, which traces the foundation of an ancient Roman
arena. After lunch and time to explore, depart to the lovely Tuscan Country Side Villa.
Meals included: breakfast, dinner
Thursday | Day 6 | Cucina & Sapori Regionali : Flavors of Regional Cuisine
Explore the Val D’Orcia (South-East) with some of the most beautiful views of Tuscany. First stop is charming Pienza, considered the
“Jewel of the Renaissance” by Pope Pius II who was born here. Next, visit of a Pecorino Cheese family farm, which focuses on quality and
natural ingredients. Enjoy a cheese tasting! Stop at the highest hilltop town of Tuscany: Montepulciano, land of the Vino Nobile wine. Take
a group walk through town, stopping for a visit at an ancient wine cellar and a Coppersmith shop “Rameria Mazzetti” that’s been a family
business for almost two centuries. Final stop of the day: Vino Nobile farmhouse, where you’ll enjoy a tasty home-made dinner.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Friday | Day 7 | Vino e Amicizia : Wine & Friendship
Take a panoramic drive through the most ancient part of the Chianti Classico hills and to the nearby village of Greve in Chianti. Visit and
take a private tour of a local winery, its old wine cellars, followed by group lunch and wine tasting. Explore one of Tuscany’s most unique
villages: the Medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano –a one-of-a-kind village that appears to be “frozen” in time and makes you immediately
want to think about knights in shining armor, evil counts, and a damsel in distress on top of a tower!
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Saturday | Day 8 | L’Arte del Vivere Bene : The Art of Fine Living
Have fun and learn about local cuisine during an entertaining cooking class at a small family farm. Then, relax by the pool/take a walk/
rest/enjoy life at the Villa. Enjoy the final group dinner at the Villa. Weather permitting, eat al fresco on the terrace under the stars.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Sunday | Day 9 | Culla del Rinascimento : The Cradle of the Renaissance
After hotel check-in, enjoy the rest of the day exploring Florence with lunch and dinner on your own. Tonight is the last night of the tour
and your last night in Florence, make it special!
Meals included: breakfast
